Not sure how much this game will come down to the coaches but MSU has a very young coaching staff across the board compared to UM.

When 12 is in the Griz will sub in fresh pass attackers and blitz the run lanes...
If it's 10 or 15 they'll contain the edges drop a lineman and blitz the run lanes...
The young Frontier Conference Coordinators will have no answers or adjustments

I'm totally kicking myself for not talking about this on the podcast, I had it in my notes. I think this could be a big factor. We were out-coached at Sac but outside of that I don't think we've been out-coached so much as we've coached ourselves into a box, at least offensively. Miller seems to be getting things turned around but he will have to call his best game of the year. But the Griz coaching staff is very veteran and are coaching like it.

Run the ball down the Griz throats! No adjustments needed.

What are the coaching changes since last season's game? I can't think of any significant ones but I could be wrong. Maybe our WR coach. Not sure about the griz.

This might be the key to the game. Does MM rise to the occasion or shrink under pressure?

Ty Gregorak is gone and Kane Ione is back as the DC. That has to be pretty big.

To me, there is one position group that determines this game. MSU o-line. A great game by the OL and MSU wins. I think we all know what to expect from the defense, they’ve been consistent. But with all of the looks that um will give, OL has to be on point. The OL can make Rovig look either solid or bad and make the run game look anywhere from pretty good to absolutely great. The dominance of the OL and a strong run game will help the defense by limiting the opportunities that the um will get by controlling the ball.

Like most games, I think the most important match-ups in this game are along the line of scrimmage.

The Cats offense needs to do its part in this game. MSU's defense is pretty good, but if they are on the field all day, UM will break them eventually. So that means they need to possess the ball, which means running the ball against a tough rushing defense. The MSU offensive line needs to generate enough movement to get some guys off of blocks and into the 2nd level. If they can make things messy for Olson and Lewis, they will find it much easier to run. And if they can generate some rush offense, they don't have to put as much onto Rovig.

Conversely, the Cat defensive front needs to hit, sack, and bother Sneed so that he can't take advantage of the MSU secondary.

If MSU is winning in the trenches, they will win the game.

Good point. There’s been so much talk about their line improvements, that not too many are acknowledging MSU’s, which was very young last year. Other than Brott everyone has roughly doubled their number of starts.

I haven't gotten the impression our defense has regressed at all this season. Anyone have any defensive stats comparing last season to this season?

I'm not trying to disregard losing Ty. I love the guy and thought he was great for us. I just think if we were to have a big step backwards on that side of the ball we would have seen it more clearly by this point.
