I just think it is stupid when a team plays a weak schedule and then wins one big game and everyone goes crazy. Look at who UC Davis has played and maybe people would realize that it takes a lot to play a schedule like that over the first 4 weeks compared to playing very weak schools. UM struggled at home before halftime against 2 very weak teams. They rolled the dice and got a lucky win yesterday. I think polls are absolutely stupid until the last week of the season is done with.
To be fair, Sagarin isn’t a poll, it’s a basically a computer algorithm that takes strength of schedule into account.
As the weeks go on this is, in theory, more accurate because there is more data to pull from.
The great thing about computer rankings (and, to be fair, a weakness as well) is that it avoids the built in biases that fans have. Right now, (unfortunately) UM has one of the best resumes in the country.
That's not a bad thing. I hope UM is #1 when we play, because it means some very good teams ahead of us get beat, and gives us even more to play for. We need our competition to be ranked as high as possible. Sagarin is in my opinion the best site for rankings, but really? We're one game into conference play Rankings don't mean much today. If we were in the 20's and win out, we'd be in great shape. Focus on next week.

Much like the Ash-era Cats, the jizz are first half of the season team. I hope they're ranked #1 or #2 in nation when we play them. Let them have their fun in the sun for now.

Tbf, we're fans, we can do whatever we want. Focusing on next week or next year really makes no difference on the team's performance.

Here is just the Massey computer rating (as opposed to the composite) which is the equivalent to the Sagarin rating. The takeaway here, other than the ordering is that the Big Sky has no less than seven teams in the Top 20. I’ve included North Dakota since games against them count. That is more than one-third of the Top 20, and they are knotted tightly. It's going to be an interesting season!

4 Montana
8 Weber St
9 Montana St
13 E Washington
14 UC Davis
17 North Dakota
19 Idaho St
26 CS Sacramento
27 Idaho
29 Cal Poly
41 Portland St
43 Northern Arizona
70 N Colorado
72 Southern Utah

I'm not worried about the polls this time of the year. If any of Weber, MSU, and UM win out, the selection committee will award them a top 4 seed. Technically Weber and MSU can both win out if both manage to get past UM. It would be interesting to see seeding if a MVFC team (presumably NDSU or SDSU), a CAA team ('Nova or JMU) and two Big Sky teams (in this case Weber and MSU) went undefeated in FCS play. Not going to happen, but still interesting...

Is UND that good or was Davis just highly overrated? Also ISU up 17-0 on the fizz in the 2nd. Could be a wild day.

What I like is our bottom 4 teams are not below 100in FCS like in past years. Idaho continues to disappoint but is where I have said they would be for the first 3 or 4 years back in FCS. Then watch them drop to play ties with UNC.

I agree Montanabob, what’s actually surprising at this point is 12 of the 14 Big Sky teams (counting UND) are in the top 50 right now.
And 7 are in the top 25.

It’ll be interesting to see how it ends up, but that’s really pretty solid from a conference perspective.
