Casey Bauman.

I dont really care, I trust our coaches enought that I believe they will make the best choice. It sounds like the competition is close so that means the backup is not much of a drop down if the #1 QB goes down or starts having bad games.

Sounds like Bauman is currently ahead slightly. I think if he has a good day Saturday, the coaches will announce him as the starter. If he doesn't, they will hold off on announcing anyone until next week.

Casey Bauman.
Seems obvious at this point it’s Bauman.

I would agree.

It is going to boil down to leadership and player respect. I too think Bauman is going to win the battle. As much as Coach Choate has emphasized the importance of the backup, my gut tells me he is preparing Rovig for that role. Hopefully the announcement comes by Sunday so they can focus in on strategy.

Rovig was leagues ahead of Bauman in spring. If Bauman has made up that gap over the summer, he definitely has more upside physically.

To all the people saying it is/should be Bauman, have you been to all the practices or are you just going off media reports?

I think the coaches are playing the media to put more pressure on Rovig. I can’t remember a QB competition at MSU where one has been under this much pressure. Maybe Jake Bleskin. Anyway, if Rovig comes out on top he’ll have been battle tested. If it’s Bauman, then he has improved immensely. Either way MSU should have solid depth at QB.

Then again Bauman is under pressure too.

From what people who have been to practices have said, Casey is playing with swagger and Tucker is not doing great under the pressure. Plus Casey has been rolling with the #1's like what 4 practices now? Like Papa says, it just seems obvious who's gonna go. Maybe the coaches are waiting for Tucker to assert himself, but he must not be stepping up to the plate, because really Rovig should have had it sewn up this spring and it was disappointing he didn't.

I have to do an eye test , before I can comment , and it's amazing what can develope physically and mentally in these
Guys, from the player run Summer practices. More so than spring ball. This culture and team is getting tight , like a bunch
of Musketeer's one for all and all for one ! The Player's know who, but we have to wait a little bit.

If Bauman earns the job I’ll be excited. Love his size at the position and hope it equates to success on Saturday.

I may have missed some article, quote, tweet, something but the comment doesn't mean anything to me in terms of indicating Bauman has won the starting job. Aren't they both getting reps with the 1's and 2's every day of Fall camp thus far?

"QB Casey Bauman been paired with the first team again today"

I’ve been to all the practices this week, and I honestly think the fans on here have made up their minds more than the coaches have. I 100% trust the coaches when they say that they need to see how they look when they are live (can get hit).

It’s hard to appreciate all of the complications and details from a distance, but you just can’t jump the gun on important decisions like this.

I think Dennis Erickson is in town to also weigh in with "what he sees" to confirm the choice for QB. Yes, I know he is just watching practice...but, if you don't think he's in the discussion, I have some beachfront property in Addis Ababa to sell you! 8)

That is exactly why I expect Rovig will start against Texas Tech. He has limited game snaps, but that still has to be a huge advantage over starting a redshirt freshman in front of 50,000 fans. Lamar was the home opener in Lubbock last year and 52,000 fans showed up. Lamar was an FCS playoff team last year and lost 77-0 in Lubbock. Lamar lost by 3 to Northern Iowa in the first round of the playoffs last year. The starting Lamar QB was 9-26 for 72 yards. Former MSU QB Jordan Hoy came in and was 1-6 for 8 yards.
