Re: Bryce Leighton Commits!
I love that Choate and Co target punters/kickers. They matter.
We don't win against the Griz last year without Padmos. Huge to get his replacement.
I believe this is the first time we've ever gotten a recruit right out of HS that's playing in one of the major All-Star games...how about that for some good screen time!!

Re: Bryce Leighton Commits!
I watched a youtube the other day on the number 1 nil punter. He has like 13 different punts. Knuckle balls, straight kicks, etc. Amazing what they can do kicking the ball now.

Yeah, if you don’t think punters are important, you didn’t pay attention during The Cat-Griz Game last year.
I mean seriously, you hear all these legendary players and coaches talking about doing the little things. MSU loses by a couple touchdowns without Padmos last year. Think about the mood around here without that.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

This is a huge pickup.
Plus we know one thing is for sure. Choate is definitely not from the Kramer coaching tree

This is a great signing! As everyone has already said; punters change field position; field position changes the game! Huge Get!

Re: Bryce Leighton Commits!
Choate and Company have done an amazing job recruiting, and that includes a ton of guys that excel in the classroom too - very impressive to this Cat.

Re: Bryce Leighton Commits!
Someone help me out, how much academic scholarship can you give a student athlete?
Montana State has several players that would receive a large amount of academic scholarship, which means you can give athletic scholarships to guys with lower GPA and ACT/SAT scores
High school valedictorians receive tuitions waivers in Montana, I think we have a few players that are valedictorians

My understanding is they can use the academic scholarship funds money but it still counts against the football teams allowable scholarships quantities allowed.

Re: Bryce Leighton Commits!
I don't know the rule for certain, but I'm pretty sure you only get 63 total scholarships for an FCS football team, period. Otherwise academic schollies would be an easy way to skirt the rules and end up with about 100 guys on scholarship on the football team.autocat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 10:19 amSomeone help me out, how much academic scholarship can you give a student athlete?

For what it's worth:
https://community.hsbaseballweb.com/top ... -more-long
Steve Spurrier was the first coach to complain to the NCAA about the schools that used athletic scholarships rather than use their athletic money and he also whined that the kids did not count against the scholarship total--the NCAA does in fact place a total limit to the FBS count and the scholarships can't be split as in the FCS and nonrevenue sports. For those of you with more time on your hands than you know what to do with, you can read the NCAA regs. Athletic scholarships do not count as one of the school's athletic scholarships.
