bump just because
Same thing happened with Rylan Ortt. He came from a family of griz season ticket holders and his dad was a tight end for the griz. They tossed him to the curb like last week’s trash and we recruited him all the while Bob Hawk was making a big production about how important Montana men are to the program.
Lot of times it's just different evaluations from different staffs.Cledus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 2:47 pmSame thing happened with Rylan Ortt. I’m not sure why or how these things happen, but they do.
Recruiting is a tricky dance. It’s definitely an emotional process and there are lots of variables in the mix.
I agree with this completely. Choate certainly has a specific body type/frame he wants on his d-line and perhaps he doesn’t quite fit the mold. It’s too bad that’s how things are going at the moment for Mr. Phipps.bobcat99 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 5:39 pmLot of times it's just different evaluations from different staffs.Cledus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 2:47 pmSame thing happened with Rylan Ortt. Assuming he plays safety?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:14 am
A predictable outcome. Jace will get a shot to follow in his father's footsteps for the team on the other side of the divide.
Schillinger mentioned in the tweet so I'm assuming so. He's great both ways so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends his career starring on offense. Fun player to watch regardless.iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:41 amAssuming he plays safety?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:14 am

Sounds like he was told he can choose offense or defense and that he is going to go in as a safetyVimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:49 amSchillinger mentioned in the tweet so I'm assuming so. Sounds like the right move. He had good (6.6 ypc) offensive numbers, but not eye-popping, which I think is more typical (not always the case) for someone to be an offensive player at this level. Amazing to see a Montana player from a Class A school getting a 3-star rating. Maybe the rating sites are getting out more.ibleedblue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:56 amVimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 11:49 amSchillinger mentioned in the tweet so I'm assuming so. Here's a post I made over on Egriz:iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:28 pmSounds like the right move. More likely that Bobby called and complained that his recruits weren't getting the stars they deserved.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 2:03 pmHere's a post I made over on Egriz:iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:28 pmSounds like the right move. Actually there are about 5 of them as 3-stars at the moment with one 2-star per 247Sports (https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Footb ... l&State=MT). Again, have no idea how they finalize rankings these days as a ton of really good MT players have had zero stars per these sites in the past (I don't even think Miller got a ranking).
Nowadays, usually it starts with individual camps (not associated with college football teams) that get put on in the spring. Random recruiting twitter profiles have also started to really share hudl highlights to get the kids more exposure such as https://twitter.com/NW_Spotlight. For example, NW Spotlight shared Kellen Detrick's junior highlight tape and he then ends up as a three-star on 247Sports. As social media and technology has continued to progress, high school ranking sites have gotten more access to small state kids. Make no mistake, there are plenty of really good football players in Montana this year...but as usual take everything with a grain of salt and watch the film!
