R&R Cat Cast - New Bobcat Fan Podcast

Post by CelticCat » Tue Sep 25, 2018 1:46 pm

Fellow Cat fans,

I'd like to announce that @Common Cat and I have launched a Bobcat fan podcast (read fan) that we are calling "R&R - Cat Cast", because well we are both named Ryan and we aren't very clever.

We both are always looking for new information or discussion on Bobcat football to listen to, so we decided to take matters into our own hands. Neither of us proclaim to be experts, we will leave that to the media and in particular the Nuanez boys who we both highly respect. Our goal is just to be a couple of fans musing about the most recent game and the state of the program, maybe even preview the upcoming game if we have time, with no real set agenda.

This our first stab at it, neither of us have done a podcast before, so it will very much be a work in progress. We've done these in one take so far. Feel free to leave any feedback here or on Twitter - @rrcatcast.

You can listen at the link below, or on that same link there will be additional links to other platforms our show is available on, including iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, etc.

https://anchor.fm/rrcatcast

The first episode after Wagner was just a test run, no real need to listen to it unless you want to hear me drinking an icy beverage the entire time on the mic.

Hope you enjoy!

Just listened....good stuff. Ryan sounded really good looking and smart. Not so much for the other guy.

Good work guys, I just listened to it too. You can edit audio with a program called audacity (free).

In fact, I think I'll just start referring to the podcast as "Ryan and the other guy"

Good discussion guys - both have points of view on different issues that I tend to agree with, and some that I hadn't thought about.

Episode 2 is available for your listening... ability. Our general thoughts on the EWU game, the offense, where we are as a program and a very important discussion on superstitions.

Also let me know if anyone has any technical difficulties at any point listening to the podcast, in particular listening on the Anchor website itself.

Listening now. Great work guys. Great timing too. I always want to listen to Bobcat content early in the week and it seems to trickle out slowly at this point and hit a stride later in the week.

In your analysis of the QB situation, you might go back and look at the stats between the two guys against the same opponent. In this game Troy's passing stats were better than Rovig's. It's tempting to point to the interceptions, but with fewer than half as many attempts, Rovig threw an interception as well, it was just called back because of an EWU penalty. Just something to consider.

Rovig may still be the better passer, I don't know, but I'm just not sure of that now. I am starting to come around to the idea that Troy needs to be QB but that he needs to get more passing plays. EWU defense was focused on the run game and that showed in the stat line. Take what they give you and let Troy have some more passes. I know that's hard when you want to be "committed to the run game" and usually things that aren't open in the beginning open up later, but against a team like EWU, you have to have a LIGHTS OUT defense, or you have to score now and not just register "body blows".

In this second episode, Celtic and I put the call out for some fan engagement. If you would like to guest on our show feel free to pm me or Celtic. Also you can follow the Cat Cast @rrcatcast on Twitter. Celtic pushes out the episodes from there as well. I believe iTunes and Spotify carry it.

Enjoyed your podcast. Feel like I'm talking football with my friends. Also agreed on the frustration with our offense, we don't seem to have any offensive identity at all. I'm really hoping Choate can make up his mind about what he is hoping to develop.

Good points about the offense. I had the same thoughts watching the EWU game. A good defense figures out the run option game and shuts it down. I am in the camp we need to have Rovig run the offense and have TA in as RB. PSU showed that you can us TAs athletic ability to run around them but EWU had it dialed in with defensive line and line backers.

Another great pod cast.

Thanks for the podcast guys! As I listened to the points being made about the offense I had one question rolling around my head.

"Will Troy ever beat a team with his arm? IF the answer is NO, and I believe we've seen enough to know that is the correct answer, then it begs the question:

"CAN Rovig beat a team with his arm?"

IF the answer is yes, and I believe we know his skills are best suited for his arm and not his running, THEN, we HAVE TO put in the compliment to Troy's ability in the run game.

We KNOW Troy can and will beat teams with his running, and Rovig can and will beat teams with his arm...WHAT'S to lose in this equation?

(I don't need the parrots chiming in, "Troy is more dynamic out of the QB slot..." I get that line of thinking...I just don't believe it). 8)

Ewu can consistently maintain and bring in constant big sky leading qbs receivers and running backs that stay. Why won’t coaches in big sky such as MSU see this and try to mold itself in a way similar to it. I feel ewu for the last 10 years has been the most consistent and don’t use the term rebuilding year or we are young and will be good in a few years. They maintain being good with young and veteran players and I think that is focus by the coaches and kids all the same. It’s a mindset to maintain dominance and consistency and execution and MSU needs to start creating that mindset instead of using we will be good in a few years or we are still young etc.

My fellow Cat fans,

Thanks for all the feedback from our last episode! We do appreciate it and love hearing it.

@DriscollCat becomes our very first guest (big thanks for coming on the show!) on Episode 3 to discuss what it means to be a program, what exactly is a culture, and how is any that different, if at all, from simply putting a team together. Not only that, but is that something Choate and the adminstration are doing here at MSU? After that Ryan and I talk about the Idaho game and then briefly look at the rest of the schedule.

We both got new microphones so I apologize for any background noises, heavy breathing, smacking lips, and a certain someone appears to have been clicking his pen a lot. I won't name any names (other Ryan). But we're still trying to nail down the technical side of the podcast.

As always thanks for listening!

Just finished listening to the rest of the Podcast. Great work guys!

Thanks again for having me on. It was a lot of fun.

To other board members: It sounds like these guys are still interested in guest spots from other members of BN. If you are considering reaching out, I would encourage you to do it. The Ryans are very laid back and it's fun just to have a chance to dig into some specific aspect of Bobcat football and to give your take on some interesting questions. That's why we're all on this board anyway, right?
