Congrats to Erik Meyer on his selection. Good to see a BSC player so well recognized. I imagine, although the Sportsnetwork article didn't say, that Travis Lulay was well up there.
And another Westerner, Gogong from Cal Poly got the Defensive Player award. That's great too as so fine football is played here in the sparsely 1-aa populated West.
Go Griz

Good for Erik Meyer. He's a great player and I imagine a good person. It's a great thing for the Big Sky to have a Payton Award winner. Congratulations, Erik.

Great for Erik Meyer, he is definitely an amazing player. It is nice to have the award back in the Big Sky after a little bit of a hiatus.
I would still take Travis Lulay over Meyer any day of the week, though!

Then why did Meyer win if he wasn't first?

He was, sorry I had the votes in the correct order, but not the names. The order has been corrected.

Joe Rubin finishing higher than Lulay.
No Way he was a better all around player than Lulay when you look at the passing, running, and special teams.

The interesting thing is that Lulay finished 9th overall, but finished with the 7th overall first place votes. Where he finished in the voting probably has something to do with the number of people who had him on their balot. 29 people had Rubin on their ballots, but only 24 had Lulay. David Ball, who was 2 or 3 spots ahead of Lulay, only received one first place vote, but his 17 4th place votes really helped him out.

How in the heck did Rubin finish so much higher than Hilliard?
I thought griz fans assured us all throughout the season that Lex was hands-down the best RB in the Big Sky...?
I'm confused; how can this be? Did the voters get the 2 players mixed up? Did the ballot counters have too many hanging chads? Are griz fans biased?

On Nov. 19th, Hilliard wasn't even the best back in Bozeman.

Griz fans, myself included, are biased. That being said, Lex is a very good running back. I think the reason that Rubin received more votes is because he had a better statistical year (more yards and touchdowns).

If the Griz can find even just a competent passing attack, and Hauck keeps Hilliard in more (why was he taken out so often?), Hilliard is going to have a huge year.

Yeah, UMs lethal passing attack really took a lot of carries/yards away from lex.
If only the passing game wasn't so dynamic.

No Envy needed
