Q2 sports news just reported that Mark Desin (Billings Senior???) verbally committed to the Cats today.

More good news today for Bobcat fans! All right! Seriously, Desin is a very solid quarterback and will make a great addition to the Bobcat program.

He is an outstanding athlete, but not sure he is the guy for us at QB. He will help the program though.
On a similar subject, I heard that Selle (Billings West) isn't even considering the fizz due to the way they treated his older brother so it will be interesting to see if he looks at MSU now that Desin has committed. After watching his very subpar performance in the AA State Championship game, ummm, maybe he should go to Carroll.

As bad as I hate to admit it, the way that Hauck's Grizzlies were humiliated on Saturday will definately effect the in-state recruiting. One could see the tide turning last year, and it will be gaining strength even more this recruiting season.
You got the verbal from Desin. And, you are correct about Selle, Hauck has already screwed that chance up by the way his brother was treated. My sources close to the Billings W. program tell me Selle will commit to either Wyoming or MSU.
Isn't it ironic that Bobby needs a QB badly, and this is the year that a couple of very good ones are available in Montana.....yet he will get neither of them.
The effects of this debacle in Bozeman will extend to many areas, like tenacales on an octopus. Most Griz fans do not realize the significance of 3 losses to the Cats the past 4 years. The base of our success at Montana has been our domination of the recruiting wars within Montana. It has allowed us to get the very best Montana athletes with 1/2 scholarships. In effect, this gave the Griz many more scholarships to grant, enabling us to create much more depth than other Big Sky teams.
Now, I doubt that Montana will be able to get the kids they want without granting full rides. Suddenly, it's not as kewl to play in Missoula as it has been in the past. These kids were 13-14 years old when the Cats started beating us. They don't remember those 16 straight. They were 10 years of age when DD made our state proud. They remember that the Cats have beaten up the Grizzlies most years.

Wolfman,
I agree that the Griz do seem to be in a bad spot with their QB situation. Bergquist may or may not develop over the next couple of years. But, what I wonder is whether or not the Griz have a scholarship to give to a HS QB. Don't they have a true freshman on scholarship, Bergquist, and Washington? If that's true, I don't see how they could afford to use another scholarship for a top level kid.

I wouldn't be surprised to see JW quite the team, or have his schollie pulled.

Over on egriz they are saying that Desin is only a Cat because the Griz didn't want him, and are predicting his future failures. Same old sh*t. What a bunch of arrogant chumps. Here's to watching Desin rip the Griz a new one for four years.

Not unexpected reactions. I don't think Desin will be a D-I QB though. I have no idea where he will play. He also plays D too, but I expect him to be on the offensive side of the ball.

I've never seen him play and I've only read about him on this board but with his smaller size and great athleticism, he sounds like he might have a role similar to that guy from um a few years back named Heidelburger.

Arm strength and size aside, this is a great signing! This kid seems like an athletic, hard-nosed, competitive kid that will make a positive impact on our program wherever he ends up on the field. When he went crazy on C.M.R. this year (400 + yards) I know many C.M.R. folks were comparing him to Dickenson when he was in high school. Great job Cats!
Great Signing

This is a great signing for the Cats. I'm not sure where Desin will end up on the field, but wherever it is, he will make an impact, he's a flat out comptetitor... I feel good about us still getting Selle. I heard he narrowed it down to MSU, UM, Oregon, and Wyoming. UM is pretty much out. Oregon signed two HS QB's, so they're out. Wyoming has Glenn, who was at UM when Selle's brother got screwed over. MSU? Looks pretty good! And sure he had 3 INT's in the championship game the other night, but he threw for 200+ yards, and brought his team back in the fourth quarter and got the WIN. He WON. Here's hoping Selle is a Cat!

We showed this weekend we DON'T NEED a Lulay caliber of player at QB. Our offense can be potent with a balanced attack. Carpenter is good. He will run the offense very well next year as we will focus on the run with Groves. The coaching staff will remain the same for next year after the great job they did this weekend. Good job coaches (tough for me to say after many botched games this year). Two teams got screwed out of the play-offs this year. Pisses me off.

One of the best things about getting Desin is that it will help increase the Bobcat fan base in Billings. This is something that the Cats have not done for many years. We have to get as many players from Billings to insure Billings will be a Bobcat town! Getting one of the biggest Montana recruits, and maybe two (Selle) will greatly increase the number of Bobcat fans from the largest city in the State.

I thought our fan base here in Billings was fairly decent. Maybe I'm wrong. But it does seem that Great Falls has a good thing going. I wnet to the spring scrimmage a couple of years ago up there and the stands on both sides had quite a few stands.

Not to spoil anyones good feelings. But this signing won't broaden a fan base because Desin is hated in pretty much everywhere but Senior. Im not saying this is because he wins. Well maybe some of it is, but because for someone who has everything going for him he sure acts like a jack ass. The whole school of Senior is that way and it is because he is their leader. Don't believe me? Ask around. Ask the kids from other schools who is the biggest cheap shot. Who won't tackle someone head on but will jump on the pile after the play is done. Same guy who cries for an intentional foul on the court and yet he just laid an even harder one. Good Job Cats. We got a real WINNER!
P.S. Lets Sign Larson from Cut Bank

This may happen in high school, but will not happen at MSU with Kramer on board I can guarantee it. The Senior leadership of this team will take over when he gets there and he will be weaned just like any other stud freshman coming in. It is a big transition from high school to college but confidence is one thing I do like in a player. He has produced on the field, the coaches/players that are above him will take care of the rest when he arrives in Bozeman.

I hope we sign Larson from Cut Bank... I think he has the potential to be the real deal. A source in Cut Bank indicated he was offered by Kramer, sure hope so. I do think whichever vebals first, if they do, Selle or Larson the other will be going someplace else... possibly Carroll, but unlikley to UM.

Anyone have any idea where Desin may be playing? What position, that is. Will it depend on if we sign another QB, Larson or Selle? Regardless, I think this is a great recruit, if nothing for the fact that he was a big name and he came here. I hope he will be a great player for us!
