The best ever?
Open for Debate:
I have been studying Bobcat football since 1982. Since then, I do not remember going into a season that my expectations are so high (National Championship).
Reasons:
- The talent level is at an all-time high.
- Because of our youth from last year being forced to play and some upperclassmen transfers, our experience is as high as I’ve seen.
- Because of the injuries from last year and the transfers this year, I feel we are as deep at almost every position then we ever have been before.
- When I look at our seniors, you couldn’t ask for better leadership on both sides of the ball.
Most of these guys went through the complete let down last November. Yes, you want them to have a short memory, but come this November, they better remember what went wrong and not repeat it. I think our leaders (Lulay, Bolton, and Mollohan) will keep everyone focused.
Some of you have mentioned the kicking game. I’m not worried because I think we will be scoring so many TDs that only the kick-off and kick-off coverage will matter.
Our defense does not concern me either. We were really only bad one month out of 4 years. Best in the Sky 01, 02, 03.
Question: Is this the best team we have ever had GOING into a season?
Some people may be superstitious, but I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I had to tell someone. I see comments like “This could be a special year” or “I can’t wait for this season to start”. I know some of you are thinking it. We are going to be damn good this year. Maybe the best.
I’ve told my grit friends that we will only beat you by 3 touchdowns because you should be better in November. You’re just lucky we don’t play you in the conference opener; it would probably be 5 TDs.
I can tell you this. I won’t be satisfied with just a playoff win.

Shouldn't you worry more about breaking your 3 game losing streak which will be 4 after OSU.
To answer your question the cat sched. is to hard to get a home playoff game so I don't see them going to a Chipper game.

Going into the season, this is the best group of athletes I can recall in Bozo and I've had the priviledge of being a Cat since before Sweeney had the sense to get out of Kalispell and go to Bozo. Gotta remember in 76 and 84 we were picked dead last in all the preseason polls and both teams stepped up and "upset" major conference teams to gain the confidence kids need in each other. Think it was 82 when we were in Salt Lake on Utah's 6 yard line 1st and goal about to score and take the lead with 1:26 left in the game and a fumble caused that highly regarded team to just barely tread water the rest of the year. Utah scored twice in the final minute to make the score look worse than it was; anyway, yeah, I think this year is going to be real special. I can't wait for Labor Day weekend, even though we've decided to not head to the game but we think we'll make every other game (if we can get a ticket to the EWU game when they go on sale).

This should be a fun year. Good team, good schedule (4 home BSC games and no Adams State). It is impossible to tell how we will finish. As Cat Grad said, we were picked last in 76 and 84 and look what happened. Injuries play a large part plus we are not sure what to make of the rest of the BSC. No one knows how good the Griz or PSu will really be. The biggest hurdle will be EWU. On paper, I don't think an all BSC all-star team (minus EWU) could beat EWU. I believe this will be a good year but I also believe we could finish anywhere from 1st to 4th. Imagine if we lost Lulay for a few games. I don't want to think about that!

Re: The best ever?
I think Cat fans have more to look forward to than griz fans. For starts, we have a proven quarterback and an offense that isn't much different than last year. This year will be a nice demonstration of whether Beavis' tactic of recruiting a drop down I-A QB will bear fruit along with the rest of the guys he has recruited over the past 2 years. Your bandwagon will truly be tested this season in my opinion.Eastcoastgriz wrote:Is good to see we still have are sense of humor.FlatheadLakeCat wrote:Open for Debate:

The defense will be better that's for sure. Regarding the griz, I think the strength of their team will be their defense.

When it comes down to it, no. The nature of their loyalty is dismaying but it comes with the territory when a program starts experiencing long streaks of success. I was only making a point, not a slam. If the griz perform subpar (and in my opinion, that means 8-3 or 7-4), their bandwagon will get lighter. A successful MSU season (8-3 or better; yes, we still have room to improve before we call 8-3 a disappointment) means our bandwagon gets heavier.Eastcoastgriz wrote:I asked this before and never got a response. I don't agree with the concept of bandwagoners but they are a part of the following of all sports.

I too have high expectations for this season. I'm keeping them very lowkey, however, because I've had expectations the last couple of seasons that ended in dissapointment. I feel this year has the potential to see one of the best teams MSU has fielded for a long time, but only time can tell if that is the truth or not.
What worries me the most if how hard our OOC schedule is. If we lose 3 OOC games, then we have to win the autobid again to get into the playoffs.
On AGS I predicted 8-3 best scenario, 7-4 most likely, and 4-7 the worst case scenario although I don't see that happening barring major injuries.

Re: The best ever?
I'm not sure I agree with that, actually. UM has been successful long enough (i.e., the last 15 years) that I really don't think a bad season or two would hurt the fan base in any noticable way. The fact is, while it may be true that a decent percentage of Griz fans started out as bandwagoners, those people have now largely been cheering for the Griz for 10-15 years -- do you really think they're all going to abandon ship and become Cat fans because of one bad season (or one great one for the Cats)?lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:If the griz perform subpar (and in my opinion, that means 8-3 or 7-4), their bandwagon will get lighter.
If the program seriously goes downhill and we have, say five bad years in a row, then I think you'll see the type of decline you're talking about, but it's not going to happen just from one bad year.

Re: The best ever?
Personally, I am looking forward to this year more than last. I am happy with the maturing of our coaching staff. I like what I see on both lines. The defensive back field looks good. Am confident in both our running backs and wide receivers. My biggest question is in our QB, however, when has a GRIZ QB not stepped up to the plate to lead the team.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:I think Cat fans have more to look forward to than griz fans. I am a little concerned about the first few games while the team gels and leadership takes hold. Can't wait for the GRIZ/cat game to make it two in a row.

He has only been knocked out once in the three years I've seen him play, and that was only for 1 or 2 series.ralph wrote:I took a look around the table (at the BSC media day), talked with the guys (players and coachs), and I'd take Lulay in a brawl with any of them.
