OSU Game
Is there any advantage in flying into Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Same price either way. Where is the team staying? Is there a hotel by the stadium? Where is everyone going to meet up on Friday night?

We talked about this a month or so ago and it looks like either Oklahoma City or Tulsa is the same distance from Stillwater. I have flown to both and neither airport really has an advantage. The drive from Tulsa is a little prettier (it is Oklahoma so neither is like driving through the Gallatin Valley) but other than that nothing. I have a reservation at a Hampton 1 block from the stadium. If you want to stay there you might want to hurry they were down to smoking rooms only a few weeks ago when I made my reservation. They required two nights stay - wouldn't let me just stay Friday night since it is an "event weekend". I see on the MSU website the game is listed as a 6:05 kickoff so two nights is probably better anyway. There is a really cool place called Eskimoe Joe's near Campus that is a lot like Spectators only on steroids. That might be a good place for everyone to meet up. How many other people are planning on coming down?

WYCAT, just an FYI, there aren't ANY hotels within 1 block of the stadium. The closest is the Atherton Hotel (on campus), and it's ~1/2 mile away. The Hampton Inn is located behind Applebee's at Hall of Fame and Perkins Rd which is about 1.5 miles from the stadium. The map on their website shows the geographic center of town, rather than the hotel location (go figure).
If folks can't get rooms in Stillville, you might also try Perry (15 miles N), Ponca City (40 miles N) or Guthrie (30 miles S). If you're flying into OKC, Guthrie would be a wise option.
Also, gameday at Eskimo Joes is pretty hectic, so expect a minimum 1 hr wait within 2 hrs of kickoff. (From the SE side of the stadium, head 2 blocks south on Knoblock to Elm and you will see Joes from there).
If you want some pizza, Hideaway is another Stillwater staple. Continue south on Knoblock from Joes for a couple of blocks. It will curve around the fire station (big steeple), and look for the line out front.

Thanks for the information. I hope we have a decent turnout and put up a good showing. We have been playing a I-A opponent for a few years now and it is always one of my favorite trips as a fan.skcOSU wrote:WYCAT, just an FYI, there aren't ANY hotels within 1 block of the stadium. On a side note, I hope several of you OSU fans check in here over the next month. I would really like to discuss the game more than hotels. I think with your coaching, schemes, etc. changes this game is a good chance for both of us to gain a lot out of it.

Cowboys v. Bobcats
Hello from another OSU Cowboy.
If you guys are like us, you are chomping at the bit for kickoff!
I hope a large contingent of Bobcat fans make their way to Stillwater. We enjoy welcoming opposing fans, as long as you arent Sooners!
There will be plenty of tailgating, and most folks are real friendly and will probably invite you grab a bit & a brew. As with most fan groups, there may be a couple jerks in the crowd, but they are the exception. If you run across them, dont let them be what you remember.
Just a heads up........
The North side of the Stadium is currently under construction, so if your seats are on that side, OSU is requesting you make your way in early to avoid major jams at the entrances.
Anyway, Welcome to Stillwater, Orange Country USA, I hope you come in full force & enjoy yourself.
If any of you want to come to have some friendly banter with us, head over to

An Oklahoma University family of football supporters head out one Saturday to do their Christmas shopping. While in the sports shop the son picks up an Oklahoma State jersey and says to his older sister, "I've decided to become an Oklahoma State fan and I would like this for Christmas".
His big sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him round the head and says, "Go talk to mother".
Off goes the little lad with the burnt orange Oklahoma State jersey in hand and finds his mother. "Mom?"
"Yes son?"
"I've decided I'm going to be an Oklahoma State fan and I would like this jersey for Christmas".
The mother is outraged at this, promptly whacks him around the head and says, "Go talk to your father!"
Off he goes with the Oklahoma State Jersey in hand and finds his father.
"Dad?"
"Yes son?"
"I've decided I'm going to be a Oklahoma State fan and I would like this jersey for Christmas".
The father is outraged and promptly whacks his son around the head and says, "No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT !"
About half an hour later they're all back in the car and heading towards home.
The father turns to his son and says "Son, I hope you've learned something today?"
The son says, "Yes, Dad, I have."
"Good son, what is it?"
To which the son replies, "I've only been a Oklahoma State fan for an hour and I already hate you Oklahoma Sooner bastards."

I was looking around on their message board, and they are having a contest to guess what the margin of victory will be each game. No one has us scoring more than 17 points that posted the score. I bet we can put up more than that, what do you guys think.

For the first time in years I am not as worried about our offense as the defense. I too think we can put some points on the board and more than 17. Unfortunately, I am not as convinced we can do much to stop them from scoring more. Wouldn't about 4 interceptions with at least 1 returned for a TD help our cause?CelticCat wrote:I was looking around on their message board, and they are having a contest to guess what the margin of victory will be each game. I can guarentee that the cats are going to put up more then 17 points. I don't know when OSU became the perenial powerhouse, soon to be national champions with a brick wall defense because last i checked and read on this site and others, they were a fairly young, untested "rebuilding" type team this year. While some of their defensive players have put up impressive numbers, there are still lots of questions on defense just like another team i know. i'm thinking the cats are going to give OSU a better game then some of those fans down in oklahoma are thinkingCelticCat wrote:I was looking around on their message board, and they are having a contest to guess what the margin of victory will be each game. *Edit: I'm by no means ragging on OSU's program because I know there is a big difference between IA and IAA programs, however, I'm more ragging on people not giving IAA programs any sort of credit. Just read my post and sounded to me like I was writing off OSU like they are a bunch of bushleaguers which I'm not...going to be a better game then everybody thinks and I'm smelling upset

I'm an Oklahoma State graduate, just checking out your board. I think this OSU squad is going to be comparable to last year, which finished in the Big 12 South Division at 7-4 - then competed in the Alamo Bowl, losing to Ohio State. I must admit, I don't know much about the Bobcats football team, though I lived in Bozeman for a short time and I love the area.
I hope you can make the trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma, it's a fun town. You will be treated to some great fans. I expect my Cowboys to win the game, but it's hard to say any margin of victory. The Big 12 South is incredibly competitive. Our regular competition includes Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, not to mention the North division teams like Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri. It's tough to compare that to Division 1AA.
Stop by the Cats Paw or the Crystal Bar and drink a beer for me. Or, maybe dinner at Sirhan Sirhans Oasis... At any rate, I hope the Bobcats play tough, I want OSU to compete against the best. I'm always pulling for Montana State when I see them competing, and I hope the only loss you guys have is against my Cowboys. Good Luck!

OSU does bring in a tough schedule by anybody in the nation's standard. I know i've pulled for them against teams like Texas and Oklahoma in the past and they play good football that is fun to watch. it should be a good game to watch and who knows, maybe the only loss the cowboys will have will be to the the fighting bobcatsvictorious wrote:I'm an Oklahoma State graduate, just checking out your board. As far as the Cats scoring a lot of points against OSU, keep in mind that we have been a slow starting team each year under Kramer.
As far as OSU goes, the fans that have been posting on BN are very nice. I am not sure how to deal with rival fans that are nice, fair and rational.

I can state that the VAST majority of people at http://www.o-state.com are decent folks who love our cowboys. We really enjoy talking to fans from the schools on our schedule and can take a shot or two as well as give them. The O-STATE Cyberpokes tailgates are by far the best in the big 12 and everyone's invited. You can bring your family and not have to worry about some a** giving you a hard time just because you went to another school. Honestly, come on over to the site and say howdy, and you'll soon make some new friends.raincat wrote:gtap: People tend to be nice and reasonable when they think they will be attending your funeral. Liken to us opening with Rocky coming to Bozeman. Can't see anyone from BCN (okay, maybe one or two) getting on Bearnation and giving them grief.
As for the game. I'll give many D1aa schools props for having some outstanding athletes. The major problem with teams in your division is depth. Even if your team's firing on all cylinders I think we'd be able to just wear you down just about every time.
Although the Pokes have been a team on the fast track for the last few years, OSU ended last season losing 4 of our last 5 games. We had a coach who was too busy looking for a new team to lead the one he had and we were saddled with an incredibly bad defensive scheme. This year we've got some great returning players, some new ones we're really looking forward to seeing play, and a new coaching staff that we feel is capable of taking our team to the top. BUT, This will be our first look at the new scheme in a game situation, and with y'all finishing strong last year I think you may be able to capitalize on some situations while we're working out the kinks and keep the game close. If you ever have a chance to take down OSU this may be it.
I'm thinking OSU 37 - Bobcats 24
GO POKES!

I know my personal prediction on o-state.com was 35-14 OSU. Most of the times in the first game of the year, the offense is a little behind the defenses. So I think it will be very low scoring till after halftime.CelticCat wrote:I was looking around on their message board, and they are having a contest to guess what the margin of victory will be each game. Also the reason I picked that was because of OSU's Dline. We got XLK(Xavier-Lawson Kennedy) and Nathan Peterson who is amazing. Nathan Peterson was injured less than half way through the season last year but was still the leading sack guy. I just see the OSU Dline giving you guys some trouble.
Now with that said, if the D-line isn't strong in the game, I can see Montana State putting close to 30 points up on us because of the weak secondary.
Either way, hopefully it will be an interesting game!
