I might have missed the announcements, but I didn't realize we already had our "money" games for '06 & '07 signed. They should be interesting.


"MSU will be paid for games at Division I-A Oklahoma in 2006 and I-A Colorado in 2007. "

I hate playing those big games because it is like just taking a loss, but if we can get rid of that budget problem... then I guess I am all for it. Hey once that money is paid off we can start looking to spending a bunch of money again! Can you smell the new debt! Here we come stadium expansion!

But also realize that the IAA committee doesn't count losses to a IA program when considering rankings and playoff bids.

Would they count it if you won against a 1-A team? you bet they would. so they obviously will count it if you lose. There is a big difference between a 7-4 season and a 8-3 season. Even if that one loss is to a 1-A school. Esp when you need to be win the conference or be in the top 16 to get in.

I am with Quast. Unfortunatley we need it for the money. But the L puts us 1 game behind everyother team that does not have to play a 1-A team.

Never thought I'd see the day the Bobcats played the Sooners. Really mixed emotions on this one. Wyoming?-bring 'em on. Utah State?-sure. Colorado State?, Minnesota?-why not! Oklahoma State?, Oregon?-it's a stretch... USC? Michigan? Oklahoma?-Hi-Kurmba!! But, I need to be in Norman for this one! And we better need an extra plane to carry back the money!!

If each averages out to a measly $250k, that gets us $1.5 mill before the expenses.

The NCAA has changed the wording for it's playoff guidelines for this year. Previously it used to read something to the effect of "more than 3 losses would put a team in jeopardy of not being considered for an at large berth" and now they have changed that to be along the lines of "fewer than 7 Division I wins would put a team..."

So actually, while it may affect seeding, it really won't affect possibility of an at large berth anymore. In light of this new guideline, the type of schedule that MSU is playing this year is actually the best possible for a team that still needs the money to make ends meet, i.e. a good I-A payday and no Div II games.

I still think with all the changes made in Stillwater and who we have back, this is going to be one of the best 1-AA versus DI games of the year. Really believe we'll get out of there with the money and a win

Oklahoma???? Is this for real? I hadn't heard this before. I thought we were playing Colorado in '06, not '07. Could it just be a misprint?

Of course I could be completely wrong (and not for the first time), but I think WSU games were $150,000 tops.

That is a major misprint i just looked on The University of Colorado website at future schedules and we play them on September 2, 2006. I really was happy to see us playing oklahoma but i guess it will never happen (my cousin got real excited when i told him) i guess i have to tell him he will never play them.

I agree with catgrad about oklahoma state they are rebuilding and if there was a good opportunity for us to beat a big 12 team it would be them. I seen my cousin play live against schools like texas, georgia, and etc. and i asked him what was the major difference in them and those other so called big time schools and all he told me was heart. He said those schools expect to win and they play like it, thats all montana state has to do is believe they can win and play with heart. He told me there not faster, smarter, maybe a little bigger on the line but they are beatable its not like were playing usc. It is all up to us as a team mentally if we can do it because you know oklahoma state is just looking at this as a tune up game and thats when we need to sneak up on them, then win out the rest of our games.

Furman consistently beats or scares SEC, ACC and Big East teams; Georgia Southern has a hard time getting money games because they play like they want to win; Appalachian State can't get games, etc., etc. When we'd send tapes of kids to schools, send them to camps, we were more concerned about the environment of a particular kid for particular schools.

All OSU has over our kids this year would be about twenty more of them. The first game of the year, there's no way a kid in Stillwater, OK is going to be in as good a shape as a kid that's spent his summer in Bozo working out planning to put on a good show so they'll get a chance to play on Sundays. Call it a chip on the shoulder, something to prove, whatever. There's more than two of these kids with a viable shot at Sundays. Wait until you see four Samoans on the field. That's why they play the games.

Just like the ones that came before these kids would always line up against that arrogant bunch 202 miles to the west when they were in the Pacific Coast Conference and sometimes beat them, I think it's kind of like walking into a bar in Lewistown and watching some little sh-t beat the hell out of a loud mouth. I know our offense can move the ball against OSU next year and I can't wait to see what all the new kids look like Saturday on defense. Gotta remember to take a sharpie for the kids to sign some autographs.

These money games are Ok but nothing like what the bad D-I programs get. Utah State consistantly gets $450K - $500K per game when they play top ten teams. Here at the U of Minnesota they also pay about $500K for an easy win against a bad D-1 program but pay much less for a D-1AA team. Seems like a rip off to me!

And I think it has a lot to do with the athletic directors and the presidents of the colleges. Some of the Southern and Gateway teams get pretty good paychecks; that bunch down the road from us got a pretty good paycheck because Oregon's AD got his start in that place. I think every other Sky team get at least 100k more than we will in Stillwater. But...if the NCAA approves the Big 12s proposal for a twelve game season next week, 1-AA will consistently get the same paychecks as the wannabe conferences.

You mean the Billings Gazette got it wrong? I checked around and found a similar article in the Butte Standard. We're not playing Oklahoma? Was this just another distortion generated by the liberal media? Oh the humanity!
Re: Oklahoma State. While I won't look at anyone around here and tell them with a straight face we have a chance to win, I too have a feeling Oklahoma State better take us pretty seriously. And, if there were ever a year I wished we could open in Husky Stadium in Seattle, this would be it!
