how bad is ISU??

i hate to seem like i'm piling on here, but how bad is this year's bengal football team?? the bobcats played a VERY average game and were 31 points better than ISU. this game was over the second the bobcats took the lead. my buddies and i sit right behind the opposing team's bench and these guys had ZERO fight; a lot of joking around and indifferent body language. i understand they're winless and their season is over, but c'mon. they just lost a player to a bad injury AND that is how they respond? pretty sad. i was under the impression the first couple UNC teams were pretty weak. the 2009 bengals make those teams look like juggernauts. i hope for their sake and the sake of the conference they turn it around.

I remember a Cats team that went 0-11 one year as we played a ton of freshman and ended up winning the conference a few years later. It would be one thing if they had a bad coach, but Zamberlain is very good one.

Half the battle when your losing is not to hang your head and they come out fighting every game, it just doesn't last long because they haven't had a break through win.

They remind me of the MSU volleyball team. They play hard, show some flashes of being able to compete but beat themselves more often than the opposing team does. At least they broke out and beat the Griz for their only conference win...that has got to suck being the Griz.. :D.

Facilities, fan support, etc probably play just as big a deal in recruiting and getting the necessary help. That is the biggest obstacle for ISU getting better.

It is really a mystery how the Bengals can be that bad. Coach Zamberlin is definitely one of the best coaches in the league and has been there now a couple of years. I was expecting big things from them when he went there.

It's not that big of a mystery. Pocatello and ISU cannot compete with the money that flows to Idaho and Boise. Yes, Idaho has some huge donors.

I noticed the same thing. They were very excited to be winning early on, but as soon as we got the fumble return TD to go ahead it was like they just thought "here we go again..." and they were out of it from that point on. It has to be extremely difficult to play on a winless team like that. I'm not sure if the 2000 MSU team was better or worse, but I recall that they came close to winning a couple of times, which ISU hasn't really done yet. Zamberlin did great things at Central Washington, and I'm also surprised that ISU is so bad. They've had some pretty decent teams, so it's not like it's impossible to recruit to Pocatello.

Money flows through all three schools rather fluidly, a few years back ISU successfully completed a 225M capital campaign. The money is there, however it may not be for athletics.

I don't know how to answer that question, but I have to say that MSU played much better, on defense, than I expected. I thought the game would have a 14 point spread at best.

The MSU defense had only four starters playing their original position, but held ISU to well below it's total offense average (league only) for the season. ISU came in at just over 300 yards per game, but was held to 144.

Check your numbers ISU was not over 300 per game

I agree that they suck this year, it's just how bad do they suck

They are playing an awful lot of young players though, so they should improve next year.

this would be an easy time to agree with you. however, i was a student and attended every game in that '00 season and the cats were just awful. i haven't done enough research comparing the two teams but i seem to remember the cats getting just blown out every game they played. if i remember right we only had like 8 or 9 touchdowns all year! and way more interceptions than that. i think i remember a stat that of all the games we played, we only kept two games within a touchdown! that was also the year we lost to humboldt state. obvioulsy we went 0-11 and i think it's clear that isu won't win a game either. but i think you'd really ahve to compare some stats to claim without a doubt that this is the worst team the big sky has seen in the last 25 years. although i admit, when i was watching that cat team, i thought there was no way i'd ever see a team that bad. idaho state seems to be making a case.

Someone else mentioned the (0-11) 2000 Cats but take a look:

Humboldt 23-14
Weber 28-7
Cal Poly 35-14
Idaho 56-7
EWU 20-14
Sac 24-13
Northridge 24-12
NAU 32-9
PSU 31-24
ISU 29-13
UM 28-3

OFF POINTS 120
DEF POINTS ALLOWED 324

ISU has given up 365 and scored 91 in 9 games

well that makes me feel better. i was totally honest when i said i never thought i'd see a team in the big sky as bad as that cats team. that was a brutal season. just the feeling you had while tailgating before the game knowing there really wasn't a shot at winning. i have a lot of sympathy for this years isu team and fans. it's a hard thing to go through. but for the cats we were a young team, and 2 years later we were in the playoffs. no reason isu won't put it together too.

I think Jared Allen's mullet has been sucking the life out of the program since he left. It's kinda like the sampson cutting his hair thing.

I'd hazzard a guess this ISU teams is worse than that Cat team. But I think it's fair to say both teams were horrible. Bear in mind when comparing scores differential, ISU has palyed two VERY big FBS teams. Either way, I think we've hit on the worst two.

(And I LOVE it, Imagine!)

I was thinking about the MSU win and we didn't get to the season average of 42-10 loss margin but we were close at 41-10. That got me to thinking about the win being below average. Here were some of the things that bothered me the most.

To start the game:
Aaron Mason was tentative at best (understandably).
Kempt was not into it.
Defense couldn't stop the initial drive to save its life.

Throughout the game:
Punt return game is/was MISERABLE.
Lots of pups on the field. Need some guys to heal up and get back into the fray!

If MSU comes out against our next three opponents FLAT and play a 1st quarter like we did against ISU (the worst team in the league), we will get pounded and won't recover. Portland St is dangerous with their passing and Sac St is resurgent. Of course um is what it is. If we start that lethargic against anyone of the next three opponents, we can kiss our collective postseason A$$ES goodbye.

We need to start the game with some VIM

you just echoed my thoughts almost verbatim. to most, a 41-10 win would seem like a complete victory, but to me the cats played a brutally pedestrian game that was littered with mistakes. MSU HASN"T PLAYED A "COMPLETE" GAME THIS YEAR!! take that as you will. i am by no means bashing this group but rather pointing out our best work is still in front of us. in terms of talent, this MSU team is right there. they just have to find a way to bring it all together. hopefully they figure it out on or before the 21st. if the cats bring the same effort of the ISU game into these final three, we're gonna get at least one ass-whoopin, and i think you know who i'm talking about.
