Now that the bball team is done, I wana start getting back into football mode, even though it's a long ways off.

When is the first practice, and more importantly, when and where is the first scrimmage?

Football isn't as far off as you might think! I think spring practice starts the Monday after you guys get done with spring break (March 21), but that is just a guess for me. I know for a fact that the first spring scrimmage will be in Great Falls on April 9th and the next will be April 16 at Bobcat Stadium. I'll make the trip for both, and I can't wait!

It's that far off? I wonder why the huge difference between us & UM? (No, Griz fans, I don't need you to chime in here and say it's because championship caliber teams usually start practice a month earlier than others - ) Anybody know?

The Griz have traditionally held their first practice over a week before everyone else, and this year I heard they were doing 2 weeks early. Just want more practice I guess, can't say it's a bad thing but less time students have for classes.

The NCAA only allows a team to have 15 practices during spring ball. Starting earlier gives you a little better chance to work with the weather. The Cats have always started their spring ball about a week after the University's spring break.

UM's spring break is a week later than MSU's, which comes into account also.

My brother and I were at Santa Fe Reds after the win over EWU, and Travis and Tyler (Lulay) were there. We left about the same time, and my brother asked him when spring ball started, and I do beleive he said the week after spring break (don't quote me on this tho - memory was not too good that night :) ).

Has anybody heard any new stuff regarding the football team? Health? Training? Coaching changes? Anything. Just trying to get some discussion going.

Bobcatdad--how is your son progressing? I am excited to see him tear it up this coming season. We haven't heard much about him.

The only thing that I've hear regarding the football team is that Kramer had back surger a few weeks ago, and is up and walking around.

Thanks for asking!!!! My son, Brian, has done well in winter conditioning. He's bigger, faster and stronger than he has ever been. I don't like to talk about him because I don't wan't to sound like I am bragging. Hopefully, he will do well in spring ball and his performance on the field will speak for itself.

I see you're from Rocklin. Is your kid a transfer or just starting out? Where did he graduate from?

DaGriz:
Brian was offered Full Ride scholarships from several D-1A colleges when he was a junior in high school. He was really impressed with Fresno State's criminology dept. (his major) and their football program, so he commited to Fresno State before the start of his senior year. Brian chose not to go on any official visits to other schools because he had already commited to Fresno State. Right before he was to sign the letter of intent with the bulldogs, Brian had a falling out with coach Pat Hill and started inquiring into other schools about joining their team. By now these schools had already filled their scholarship slots and his only chance to play for them was as a walk on. Brian decided to enroll at Sierra junior college and play for Coach Tisdale ( ex head coach for the University of Nevada, Reno) when MSU showed interest in him and offered him a scholarship to play for Montana State.
It was a great move because Brian really loves the state of Montana and is positioning himself to be an impact player for the Bobcats.

I grew up in the Chico area. I'm familiar with Sierra. Good luck to him, except when he plays the Griz of course

BobcatDad: Tell Brian to think "Joe Bignell". I hope he breaks all of Joe's records at MSU-good luck to him!

I'm encouraged to hear that your son is getting bigger, stronger, faster!!

Will he still be playing TE, if so, he will probably step right in we shouldn't have a drop off at that position like a lot of posters are anticipating.

94VegasCat:
Yes, Brian will be competing as a tight end. The competition at this position is going to be fun to watch this spring. ALL of the tight ends are extremely talented, though green. If coach Kramer decides to go back to a two tight end set, it is really going to open up the running game in addition to the passing schemes.

Thanks for the update, and if you ever have any team news to report, however minor it may seem, please post away! :D I, for one, am starving for Bobcat Football info. of any kind. Good luck and health to your son!
