I realy like the way this kid plays. Always has his head in the game, and is starting to find his shot. I wish that the whole team played with the kind of heart and guts that this kid plays with. That can also be said about dissly last night. That dunk he had through the lane was AMAZING.
On a side note. I was listening to the pre-game show on my way to the "brick". Attaberry(sp?) asked Mick how great it was to have the season come down to the final week to see who wins it. Micks anser was "Well It's good to know that whatever happends we get at worse a home play-off game." Is it just me or is that not the right attitude going into the game.

I think that a coach should say something like "Well, we want the rest of our games leading up to the Big Dance to be at home and we are going to play like he!l to make it happen."
Then you would want a coach that is willing to go to an inside game when you ONLY SHOOT 3-21 FROM DOWNTOWN.

Great game last night, and my sentiments exactly on Durr and Diss. Its too bad Carson couldnt redshirt last year, b/c I think by the time he's a senior, he will be an extremely valuable player finally coming into his own and everyone will be begging to have that burned redshirt back.
As for Durham....I cant figure out if this is truely his attitude towards the games - please no, I pray please no - but he has always said things like this. I hope its just quotes for the radio/tv/papers and that inside the lockerroom, he really does fire up his team.

We would need a coach who wasn't a guard in the past. Overall I thought that we played smart b-ball and Mick did a good job, but you have to get your kids to work it inside. If you don't want to do that, then pull moss and Al out of the game and play with five guards.

Yes, but most of the 21 shots from behind the arc were not bad shots. Miller forced up a few, and I still think Diss shoots way too many and should be driving to the hoop instead....but for the most part, those shots are coming in the flow of the offense, and if the kid is open he needs to hit that shot.
This is a young team with streaky shooters. Get hot, and they can beat anyone. Cold....and everyone will beat us. I hope these guys work on their shots in the offseason.
Besides, 8 threes went up in OT when the team was down 6 by the way. That means the Cats only hoisted up 13 in regulation. That is not many at all - especially without Moss playing to his abilities inside. Good shots for the most part, those guys just have to hit open shots, plain and simple!

It is unbelievable to me that we after an overtime loss to an extremely talented team, that people are piling on coach Durham. This team was picked to finish last in the conference by both the coaches and the media, and now we have about an 80% chance of having a first round tournament bye...how many of you would have been happy with that at the start of the season? It is truely amazing what coach Durham has done with this team, and I really think that he is deserving of the Coach of the year award.
You have to realize that when it comes to dealing with the media, coach Durham IS NOT coach Kramer. I assure you that he is as intense as anyone on the bench, in the locker room, and in practice. Coach Durham has done an outstanding job this year, and he deservers praise, not criticism.

Completely agree wtih you. I am not a huge Durham fan (in terms of a coach - he is a great man besides that) but I applaud the season he has had. Seems like this team is going through yet another late season fade, but regardless, Durham is most deserving of coach of the year.
That loss last night, there isnt anything you can pin it on other than we just got beat by a better team. Shot great FG% - not 3% though - and shot as good from the foul line as I have seen the Cats do in years. Decent defense against a good offense team. Just a great game all around....only the good guys didnt win.
Now, if the Cats can win Saturday then all is good in the world. To go from picked last to 2nd place....pretty impressive, and I think we still have a legit shot at winning the tournament. As for next year, I have big expectations for this team - literally every contributor comes back and we get Ted Morris!

Dang, I got really emotional last night. But dang, the kids were doing a great job running the floor and getting it inside, and when I lost the feed and went to the PSU feed, their announcers kind of questioned why we changed to all the back door looks. My observations over the last 30 years in the Sky is several coaches don't have much confidence in the kids they've recruited. Even EWUs coach last year was famous for his Princeton garbage, now he's noted for his uptempo ball at Utah! My analogy would be (since we're the udder university) why buy thoroughbreds and make them do Clydesdale work

(I know, ya'll drink light beer)

Anyway, I like to think these transfers are every bit as good as the kids in the supposed "power" conferences but our expectations anymore leave a lot to be desired

Does anyone else notice that the talent in the Big Sky is horrible? I think there is 3 good teams and the rest is garbage. NAU, Weber, Idaho State, don't have 1 quality player besides the guy from Weber on their squads. I think that after seeing those other teams play, if we had not gotten 2nd or 3rd then we have some serious problems. Don't think that it was too surprising that we didn't finish last, Big Sky conference is do do.

I think that we didn't under acheive...we overacheived. I think everyone would have taken a 4th place and have been happy at the beginning. When we won those first three games everyone started expecting us to be the best team in the league...we just played some good games at home and three great ones on the road. the Cats inproved some throughout the season, but I mean jeezz! two guards that are around 6-0. One that is one of our inside threats, a 6-11 205 lb center, a sophomore as our defensive stopper who's supposed to be one of our main scorers, we lose our point guard who's one of the best in the BSC the first part of the season.......Mick did a great job. He will always be Mick. He will always do the Lou Holtz type of prediction (hopefully not in front of his players) and he will always be humble.
I think he has changed some of his ways this year. He has gone inside more (although the team has reverted a couple of times) and he seems a little more fiery...maybe because Casey is on the team. I can remember about ten years ago he was ready to give up after a big loss. I think he has things more in perspective now. We need to wait and see what the recruiting brings in the next couple of years. After all it's been awhile since he has had all of his scollys to work with. Coach Brown could also have a good effect on the team.

How can you be happy with a .500 record. Coach D needs to go after this season.

Should we fire him before or after he receives his coach of the year award?

I think that getting 2nd in conference is really great but I wouldn't necessarily say we overachieved. Come on you can't tell me that the conference is that good this year. The only reason why we were picked last is cause we had 7-8 new players coming in and so nobody knew them. I also don't think that Durham will win Coach of the year, we have an overall record of 13-13......

Schroyer (PSU) will almost certainly win COY. Either way, firing Mick now would be stupid, he just brought in a whole bunch of newcomers who are going to finish 5 spots higher than either of the last two teams did. The two seniors we lose are a center who's barely seen the court (Towsley), and the last guy off the bench (Woodall). He's done a very nice job last year, let's see what he can do next year with a veteran team that should be picked to win the conference.

Geez, wbtfg, that is just unquestionably "griz envy." First they fired Holst after his team won the Big Sky tourney, and now we want to follow in the friz footsteps again...

Boy, Durr did play well this weekend.....he really should contribute at the Big Sky tournament. Papa Durr was in Billings running a basketball tournament.....he would have been proud!
As I said before, give this kid a chance and he will help you win big games!

I can't agree I still think he poses no threat. He can certainly pass it back and forth on the top of the key though.
I do give him some credit on those two offensive rebounds he batted back to our other guys, he showed some hustle there. He has heart and he works hard but he is lacking the tools to be a good D-1 player.

ARE YOU WATCHING THE SAME GAMES WE ARE? HOW ABOUT THE BIG THREE AND STEAL, THEN PASS TO DISSLY THAT GAVE THE CATS THE LEAD IN THE FIRST HALF AGAINST PSU. WHAT HAVE YOU GOT AGAINST THIS KID? HE HOLDS AXTMAN TO ZERO THE FIRST TEN MINUTES HE GUARDS HIM IN THE SECOND HALF AND SIX TOTAL DURING THE TIME HE DEFENDED HIM....HE IS A VERY ADEQUATE D-1 PLAYER AND WILL BE THE TYPE OF PLAYER THAT WINS A BIG GAME FOR YOU SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN IN THE SCORING STATS.....GET REAL.
