YES!!! Man, I really wanted this kid to play for the Cats! HUGE get for the Cats - now we need to go out and get Utterback, I believe he is visiting Bozeman this weekend, with no money offered yet by either MSU or UM. Great job, coaches!

Brandon, welcome to the Bobcat Family! You made a wise decision - here's to a 4-0 record against the friz while you are here, and to making some noise in the playoffs - including a trip to Chatty.

BozoneCat: you have moved into the Top 100 posters coming out of high school in the nation in large part due to this post, which was made at 4:25 AM. Not only did you scoop this board, but you must've forgone brushing your teeth and having a Pop Tart to ensure that you would be the one to provide a link to this article. You're to be commended on a job well done.

& on the bright side he'll be able to play as a 5th year senior if he can graduate in 4 years. Do you lose your Redshirt if you can't play your freshman year due to academics? Or do you sit out a year get the grades, then redshirt, then play 2 years, graduate and play 2 more years?
Really how bad is a 720 SAT score?

It's right up there with what Hilliard and Van Cooper scored.....

How bad is it Jagur1? What is a good SAT score? What role do SAT scores play in college sports or college in general? Seriously, I have no clue. I think that back when I was in h.s. that you just had to take the SAT to qualify for a college in Montana. I recall everyone in the room being all stressed and me playing dot-to-dot.

Sweet news! I can't wait to see him in there taking up double teams so our LB's can swarm to the ball.

Jagur1, just answered my own question with the above. 720 is pretty bad and would not get you into any Montana 4-yr college.

or b. has obtained at least a 2.5 high school grade point average (GPA),

I bet he gets in through that one alone. It says you must just make one of those requirements.

You need to meet only ONE of the following.

1030 SAT/22 ACT
OR
2.5 GPA
OR
Graduate in the top 1/2 of the class.

So if he has a 2.5 he will be accepted unconditionally. Also, every Montana school has a certain amount of waivers for people who are very close on the GPA or test scores. So if he graduates with a 2.3, I think that he will probably be accepted unconditionally.

If his SAT is that low, and he has a comparable ACT score, and he has less than a 2.0, he would be accepted on a probationary/part time basis. That basically means that he would only be allowed to take 6 credits his first semester, and he finishes that semester with at least a 2.0 GPA, then his probationary status will be rescinded. I'm not sure about this, but I think that if he were to be placed on probation that he could take those six credits this summer, and if he ends up with a 2.0, then he would be able to play in the fall (Kind of a Kamarr Davis thing).

I think our coaching staff has done a fantastic job recruiting this year. I have said that this would be our best recruiting year ever. I thought last year was going to be a great year, but then the whole O'Brien incident happend, and I think that really set us back recruiting wise. Now that we have moved on from that, I think the recruting will get better every single year. Especially with guys like McEndoo and Junior out on the road. How couldn't you like those guys. Kudos to all of the coaches, you have all done a fantastic job! Now let's get Brandon Utterback this weekend!

That's true, but it seems odd that he'd be able to attain a 2.5 if his SAT was only 720. But you have to believe that Kramer - who comes off as being a stickler about his players being good students - would have this covered.

Who knows if there is any basis for this discussion regarding his grades, but whatever the case - being someone who struggled to get through HS and college - I wish him well in his effort to earn his degree from MSU.

You'd be surprised. A lot of people just aren't test takers.

Assuming he is eligible grade wise, I think he is going to be a GREAT addition to our hypothetically great DL this year. We already have signed two I believe, adding to an already pretty solid group we have returning from last year. Adding Hoffenbacker should give us great rotation!

I really think that we have put ourselves in a great position to make a run in the playoffs. We have a great quarterback/leader, and we now have a TON of depth. Our problem in the past has been because of injuried players, I really think that if someone gets injured (other than Lulay and Gatewood...knock on wood) we will have a very strong replacement at every position on the field. Our depth chart is going to be unreal this year.

Yep, OL should be solid this year. I too am hoping Saucedo can be a MOOSE in there at GUARD this year and help open up some holes for our running game inside the tackle. The holes just weren't there inside last year it seemed like as Jusint Domineck is not a guy who 'dances' in the hole very long. Everytime he made his cut up the middle the hole collapsed it seemed. Now off tackle, was a different story as there were holes there. Hopefully Bolton/Saucedo/Birkland can all play guard and Hirst/Jenson can man the tackles spots. That would make for a very big OL. Also, Chris Smith may be ready to go too at the Guard spot as well as that guy looks like a TANK!
