Football Captains named

Post by SonomaCat » Thu Apr 15, 2004 5:26 pm

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Three members of Mike Kramer's first Montana State recruiting class and a rare underclassman will serve as Bobcat football captains next fall.

The MSU football team elected defensive tackle Beau Clark of Belgrade, linebacker Roger Cooper of Port Orchard, Wash., Blake Wolf of Uniontown, Wash., and Travis Lulay of Aumsville, Ore., as team captains for next year. Lulay becomes the second junior in Kramer's reign, joining Jon Montoya, to serve as a team captain.

"Three of these guys are the core of our first recruiting class here, and they have stood the test of time," Kramer said. "These guys know exactly what we as a staff want from them, and what as a team we need from them. I'm excited to watch these four guys continue the great legacy of leadership that we've received from captains here at Montana State University."

Clark, who grew up in the Gallatin Valley cheering for the Bobcats, has established himself as a starter after two extremely productive years as a reserve. He has 62 tackles and 10.5 sacks in the past two seasons while starting only three games. Cooper is a two-time All-Big Sky linebacker. Wolf is a third-year starter at tight end who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Sky honors last year. Lulay, already established as one of the three most productive quarterbacks in MSU history, is slated to be a third-year starter next fall coming off of a second team all-conference season.

The Bobcats hold their final scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at 2 pm in Bobcat Stadium. In addition to the ball game and introduction of captains, Kramer will announce winners for the Hayden Ferguson Award for Academic Excellence, the Chuck Karnop Award for Mental and Physical Toughness, the Cliff Hysell Award for Courage, the Tom Parac Award for Most Improved Offensive Player of the Spring, and the Jon Montoya Award for Most Improved Defensive Player of the Spring.

These are great picks. Cooper has always rallied, right along side Montoya, Ioane, Cordeiro. Clark. All I can say, is hometown proud. Lulay, a true leader since the beginning. It will be exciting to watch what lies ahead. These three individuals will continue to lead us into the next BSC championship.

GO CATS!!! :D
