So what about coaches? We've talked about players, stats, common opponent score differentials, etc., but now compare staff. Not head coaches, but position coaches. Who are better and why?

No chance the porous Griz defense holds the Cats to 21. Cats win the game. Griz are held under 28.OldGriz wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 7:58 pmMontana — 31GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 7:52 pmThis troll has had plenty to eat over here. The programs definitely have different demographics. The UM side of the rivalry has some former FBS guys who are on the tail end of their careers. Montana’s DC is 74 years old and was the DC for Cal, Arizona State, Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington, San Jose State, Colorado, and UNLV before taking Montana’s DC post. Montana’s OC is 61 years old and was the OC for Kentucky, Baylor, Boise State, Florida, and UTEP before taking Montana’s OC post.

I think Sean Howe is probably one of the up and coming coaches in the league. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as a power 5 coordinator one day.OldGriz wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 11:11 pmThe programs definitely have different demographics. That seems to be the difference between the coaches. Ours are up and coming while theirs are on the downslope of their careers and an FCS job is all they can get. With those two resumes listed, Missoula is taking what you can get, not where you actually want to be.Bocephus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 7:28 amI think Sean Howe is probably one of the up and coming coaches in the league. @HookedOnGriz, will you please wrangle up Jack and lead him back to the Gris board?

Why is there a wave of "If Justin Lamson doesn't crumble under pressure...." thoughts amongst Cat fans? What one example do we have that the leader of our offense will succumb to pressure and not shine in this game?

Re: How do Cats stack up against Griz
It's a first start on the road in Cat/Griz, that narrative will always exist no matter who the QB is. He also looked a little unsettled against UC Davis, especially the first drive or two. But I think overall he's proven he is a gamer and I don't expect him to "crumble" but I think he is probably the most important piece on offense Saturday. He doesn't have to have a career day but he needs to have his typical 65-70% completion rate, 200 yards, maybe another 50-70 on the ground, 3 total touchdowns between rushing and passing, not take too many bad sacks, and not turn the ball over.PortlandCat90 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 9:39 amWhy is there a wave of "If Justin Lamson doesn't crumble under pressure...." thoughts amongst Cat fans? On the flip said, this will be Ah Yat's first start in a Cat/Griz game, but obviously he has a lot of experience being on the team for the last two, and it's at home.

Lamson has had 2 games he looked shaky. Poly and UCD both I think had more personal meaning. But he played thru it, didn't, didn't big mistakes and led team to wins. He also handled Oregon well, getting hit quite a bit, but having a steady game.CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 9:56 amIt's a first start on the road in Cat/Griz, that narrative will always exist no matter who the QB is. While Ah Yat has been there he hasn't had pressure of being undefeated, expected to win, and possibly having to carry his team. If he gets hit a few times and fumbles or throws a pick early that pressure increases greatly.

None of these guys are Lamson, which is my point. What has Lamson showed us that would lead anybody to believe anything other than he is going out there and leading this team to a W? Starting Saturday is why we brought him in.91catAlum wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 9:54 amMcKay in 2021. Tommy in 2023. Bleskin was our backup and starting his second game. Also had a shoulder injury and should not have been out there. McKay's troubles are well documented. Tommy was not a passer and had 0 completions for 0 yards in the first half if I remember correctly. We were also down 14-0 after 2 possessions.

Well said. Lamson stated both Cal games had major personal waves. I think having UC Davis game last week gave Sterbick and Vigen a perfect example of how to calm him down if he needs it.He even mentioned that he was a little too amped up in his interview.tetoncat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 10:22 amLamson has had 2 games he looked shaky. I'm just a firm believer in positive vibes and attitude going into any challenging time. I think Lamson excels and we hammer them.
I agree with the Ah Yat statement. I think Bobby will try to get the ball out of his hands early, but he'll still get nailed a few times and hard enough to make him think about it.

Yes there are reasons those guys had a rough day in missoula. But you asked for 1 example where the team leader didn't perform well, and I gave you 3.PortlandCat90 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 10:38 amNone of these guys are Lamson, which is my point. Call it my own ptsd if you want, but I'm just saying there's always a chance our new QB has a tough day in that environment.
