Kyle Brennan Bails on MSU

Anyway, I'm still very confident that we will find the right candidate to lead MSU athletics into the future. It is interesting that Kyle was added as a "late finalist" for the position the week of interviews. And you can certainly still offer the other finalists.

On the bright side, when Kyle obtains Athletic Director status at a Power 5 school maybe his conscience will direct him to pay MSU a big fat paycheck to play a football game.

I did go the press conference and when people asked my what I thought, I really didn't have anything great to say about him. He didn't come off that exciting or even that good of a speaker. I don't think the kids cracked a smile once while on stage. It was all kind of awkward.

That's what I was saying earlier Cats15. The event just seemed flat. Perhaps they were having second thoughts then. I guess it doesn't really matter, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Go back and look at the pictures.

I thought the same thing myself at the time. He didn't come across as excited and the family didn't seem to be either. I agree he should have thought about all this before saying yes. It is going to take a dynamic, excited person to get the job done here in the money raising area. It wouldn't have worked for him here if he wasn't 110% committed.

Why are people defending this?! Not only is it a slap in the face to all MSU fans, it makes us look awful and it sets us back $$ and time. Regardless of the reason he decided to pull his commitment, it is unacceptable. I'm so tired of people doing what they want in all aspects of life, and not having any consequences. Own it. You are a quitter and its that simple.

Seriously, though, this is a real dickhead move on his part. I understand his family is battling health issues, and for that I sympathize with him. But you know that had to be weighing on his mind when he was going through the interview process. If you have even the slightest doubt, just back out or decline the offer. Do you realize how friggin' expensive it is to do a job search and go through the interview & selection process, let alone do it all on a national scale? This cost MSU a lot of coin just to have to go through this process a second time. Not to mention the time it takes? This decision might catch up to him next time he seeks out another AD opportunity...

This puts us in a bad spot trying to fill this position and have the kind of great positive energy and enthusiasm that we appeared to have just a week ago. IMO it would be silly to completely start the search process over again if there were other candidates interviewed that Cruzado and the search committee thinks are also a good fit for the position. HIring a #2 candidate (or a #3 or #4 candidate) because the #1 choice turned down the job happens all the time - it just usually doesn't happen after a public announcement and press conference with your guy who will eventually turn down the job! Maybe the other candidates will decline the MSU job knowing they weren't the top choice, or maybe they'll still see it as a great opportunity worth taking and still be excited to go to work with the #2 choice football coach who seems to have done all the right things since being hired.

The one thing that is definitely true is that it's much better for Brennan to back out now, as opposed to coming to MSU for a year or two and do a half-assed job knowing that his heart isn't in it, and then bailing and leaving MSU in an even worse situation.

Very disappointing, mainly because Brennan wasted time and money, but that's a sunk cost at this point and if he didn't want to be a Bobcat, then we as alumni and fans should just move on to someone who does want it.

So is he offering to reimburse MSU for his and his family's trip to Bozeman? That would be the honorable thing to do as a gesture even though MSU most likely wouldn't accept it.

Seems as if we dodged a bullet on this one, which is kind of a scary thought considering how sold everyone from Cruzado down to us fans were with the initial hire and Brennan's vision for improving facilities.

I disagree. It's still recent time wise, no need to go through the entire process again. Call the 2nd guy in line, ask if he is interested, if yes. Sign him! Done deal!!!
