2016 MSU Recruiting - 37 (13 Full/3 Part./12 PWO/9 Tranfers)

Potential new PWO? Matt Miller and BJ Robertson recently started to follow Luke Channer, a 6'4", 280 lb offensive guard from Corvallis, MT. Luke also follows all our coaches. He is a two time all-conference offensive guard (1st team in 2015 and 2nd team in 2014) out of the Southwestern A conference. Here is what I wrote about him for the Shrine Game Breakdowns:

Luke played guard for Corvallis. He added more weight prior to his senior season and he moves well for a big man at 280. He has a good release off the line and gets into defenders quickly, shooting his hands. He also does a good job of finishing his blocks. He takes good angles to get his defender turned. Luke does have position flexibility which is key for lineman. Luke has the tools and I'm interested to see how what happens to him or if he decides to play football. From what I see on tape, he has the ability to be a good college lineman. The only lineman that I was surprised he wasn't part of the selections.

Maybe Colter can confirm with him on twitter. Like any PWO, Luke shows potential on film. Today, he took 4th place at State A wrestling as a heavyweight so the boy can wrestle...which is never a bad thing for an offensive lineman. He also carries a 4.0 GPA.

I wonder what the kids story is, he is a really, and I mean really good WR. He's good speed, he attacks the ball and he's a strong runner. Seems somebody really dropped the ball with this kid, but i'll take him as a DB. I bet he even turns his head.

As mslacat pointed out on Twitter, this outlet reported a similar story either last year or two years ago, and the kid ended up a non-qualifier and was never confirmed to be an offer.

I have heard nothing from the coaches about any of our PWOs. Not that they haven't signed here because there is visual evidence of Kamden Brown and Conner Floden at their signing days. I would just like to see a press release or something from the coaching staff as there have been in the past. So far here is a list of kids that are supposedly PWOs:

Kamden Brown - QB (Covina, California)
Conner Floden - OL (El Dorado, California)
Luke Channer - OL (Corvallis, Montana)
Nick Van Horssen - RB/DB (Helena, Montana)

I think Basketball at Carroll . . . the fact that he wasn't really recruited by either Montana or Montana State leads me to believe he maybe didn't have a D1 set of skills.

He did. He got two or three star ratings from all of the scout sites (which really means nothing because those sites are clueless on Montana athletes). I had him ranked as the 17th best prospect out of Montana this year and at one point I had him as high as 7th. Looking at our current QB situation, I don't think we "missed" on anyone. Warp finished his career as statistically the best passer in Montana high school football history. If we missed on Warp, so did everybody else. At the FCS level, Dartmouth offered him for football. That was it from what I know.

Is it still all quiet on the Payton O'Reilly front? I haven't followed recruiting that closely except for the last three years and I don't recall anyone waiting this long to announce. Is this pretty rare?

Kids can announce when they want really. Payton won't be going to MSU from what I hear. Good linebacker. Will remain #6 on my Montana Recruits 2016 list. Overall, we have a stockpile of linebackers in our freshman, redshirt freshman, and sophomore ranks. Might have just not had a scholarship available.

Thanks Vim, then here's hoping he gets a great opportunity to play somewhere else! Just not to the west of us or anywhere else in the Big Sky, kid has a lot of talent, don't really want to have to face him in the future!
