In the short term, our kids in this state really get the shaft because of the MHSA. We don't have spring football, our season is considerably shorter (how many state championship games are the 15th of the year?) and the all star games appear to limit the kids to seniors. (I don't know of any juniors attending). Plus, I don't know of any combines and I'll admit I don't know what that would do to a kids eligibility were they to attend any.
Those points only concern football. The big kid from Kalispell, Selvig and our Howard had to go out of state to Spokane at the closest or someplace in Washington or Oregon in order to play AAU basketball? Our reservation kids have to head to the midwest in order to get any national exposure, usually Oklahoma but frequently as far as North Carolina?
Mom and dad pick up the tab for the camps here (the reservation kids now have a much better community fundraising effort to get these kids to the camps.)
