Re: Washington state
A silver lining to the recent social media stubbed toe is that it probably soured some fanbases on stealing our coach this year.

I sure hope the teams that are interested in Vigen are that unserious and decide not to go after him.

Administrators need their fanbases to be excited about new hires, so the low information folks in the fanbase (99% of fans of a team like Wazzu) do hold a lot of sway.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 11:55 amI sure hope the teams that are interested in Vigen are that unserious and decide not to go after him.

Not sure I've seen a lot of hires based on social media input. Big booster input maybe. They would look at initial video as well as Vigens statement. Who wouldn't want a coach that was keeping his player from potential altercation.SonomaCat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 11:59 amAdministrators need their fanbases to be excited about new hires, so the low information folks in the fanbase (99% of fans of a team like Wazzu) do hold a lot of sway.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 11:55 amI sure hope the teams that are interested in Vigen are that unserious and decide not to go after him.

Looks like Chip Kelly is now a candidate for the Washington State job. Wouldn't be surprised if they go with him as a temporary fix...

I could see that story being a Chip Kelly (or his people) trying to drum up interest in him as a head coach. Could he go there? Yes...but I don't see it.BlueAndGoldNation wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 3:43 pmLooks like Chip Kelly is now a candidate for the Washington State job. The longer WSU doesn't make an announcement or the lack of CREDIBLE reports...the more worried I will get. I could see WSU allowing Vigen to coach through the playoffs this time around. I could also see Vigen working hard to keep any mention of the job out of the headlines until Cats have won the National Championship (or have lost). Thus, if there are crickets for more than a week on this job, I will get worried. I think WSU is going to look for a middle aged or older coach who is less likely to be a hired gun itching to move up as fast as possible. Vigen has certainly shown, when given an opportunity to succeed, he is willing to stay.

Chip Kelly would be hired gun and offer no continuity. Their best bet is ex player who wants to come home.

Knowing that hiring decisions of this magnitude can make or break an AD's career, they tend to be very conservative with their choices ... right or wrong.

Re: Washington state
WSU is a dumpster fire currently and I don't know why anyone would want to associate with the program. Huge budget defecits and campus enrollment is about the same as Bozeman. They don't have an AD and they're cutting programs. I can see an FCS coach doubling there salary for 5 years but then not be able to find a job. Quality of life in Pullman compared to Bozeman is not even comparable. There would have to be a ton of money thrown out there, they did get 4 million with the Roger's buyout but that goes to the huge deficit.

It's not the jumping ship for a better offer (although leaving before your contract is up isn't exactly on the up and up). It's the attempt to burn down the program that you are leaving on the way out the door.
I've watched guys try to sabotage their employers on the way out. It was never OK then, and its not OK just because its football.
