Re: Cats vs. Mercyhurst predictions
This game could mimic Cal Poly a few years ago where Vigen was trying to run out the clock but CP was so bad that Marqui just kept housing it.

off the pedal when we hit 40
2s and 3s could still run up the score
We once played Eastern Oregon State, it was 72-0 at the half even tho by 2nd quarter we were at the bottom of eligible players. We ran the same play all 2nd half and still ended 86-0. I remember Bobby Burne running the same dive over and over, and one play he hit the second level, and waited for a LB, S, anyone to tackle him - he felt bad, but just kinda jogged into the end zone hoping he'd get tackled.
I hope it's not like that, but watching some of their game last Saturday, it could be. Mercyhurst is supposed to be Div. 1

Re: Cats vs. Mercyhurst predictions
Love these predictions. Does anyone really think Coach will run up the score?
52-2
They score when Coach tells the player to just run around the end zone to kill the clock.

Might a running clock be used in the 2nd half? or 3rd and 4th quarters be set to 5 minutes each?

I don't think Vigen would ever intentionally run up the score. But I also think there are just some teams where the score can't help but get away. If we're playing 3's and 4's and there's still gaping holes what are you going to do? Can't tell a guy not to score. That's more disrespectful in my mind.

BN is going to EXPLODE if the score is only like 14-0 at the end of the 1st Q.

Yup, I agree.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:25 pmI don't think Vigen would ever intentionally run up the score. Plus you don’t tell em to play careful or soft, that has bad consequences.
Thanks

Re: Cats vs. Mercyhurst predictions
Probably already been said here, but if the score gets lopsided, you let your twos and threes run the offense and play hard and mix them with some number ones so they have some valuable experience.DMMDCats wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:31 pmYup, I agree.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:25 pmI don't think Vigen would ever intentionally run up the score. Holding up, just like Tommy sliding in that eastern Washington game and getting concussed , always seems like a recipe for Injury.

It's going to be something like 45-10. 35-3 at half.

Re: Cats vs. Mercyhurst predictions
I don't want to sell Mercyhurst short, but it's kind of a scary, perfect storm situation. (Maybe this has already been discussed?) This is a game where you should be really happy that they changed the clock rules. Hopefully, Mercyhurst comes out and runs the ball and just tries to run the clock out. Otherwise, it could get bad. Not only is there a big disparity between the skill levels but the worst part is the MSU backups are probably champing at the bit to get back out there and make up for their showing against Maine last time out. Maybe that has worn off. I wouldn't think MSU will go after the punter or return many punts and will probably do a lot of things to get themselves into situations so it can work on some lagging areas.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

By Massey rankings this week this is the worst team in FCS. Bummer that SFA backed out because this game isn’t any fun.
Starters might play two full quarters. Just hope to get out of the game healthy and get 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s plenty of action. Score won’t be nearly as bad as it could be for this reason.
