McGillis could and very well may play basketball for the MSU Cats. You are right as well. These Montana players either want to be a "Cat" or a "Griz" and try to play a role on a D-1 team, or be an impact player in the Frontier conference. I am not too sure the best player in Montana year to year is ready for D-1, let alone be a star. I think we are all on the same page...........

CRISWELL!GRIZG wrote:IF THE HOME TOWN TEAM DOESN'T THINK THIS KID IS GOOD ENOUGH WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN IS HE GOOD ENOUGH FOR MSU?
At the Time neither the Griz coach (Holst) nor MSU coach (Durham) thought Crizwell
was a D-1 basketball players.
Mistakes are made. The thing I will say about McGillis is that he has such an up side. In
the last 16 months he has gone from a average players in the AA to one of the top players
in the in the AA by the end of last season. He stared in quite a few camps during the
summer, and he grew from a 6-2 player to 6-6. How much of a late bloomer is he? does
he have an other inch or two left in him? Put in a D-1 program how much better can he
get. He has the one thing you can not teach height and athletic ability.

Who said the Home Town Team didn't think he was good enough? If you were to ask Larry Krystkowiak or Wayne Tinkle if Jack McGillis was good enough to play for the Griz, you would get two YES's. They have recruited him heavily as a Walk-On, (which I already know what some of the replies will be to that), but they just simply didn't have a scholarship available at the current time. Mslacat is exactly right in his last post. I can also remember when the Cats didn't offer Dave Dickenson a scholarship.IF THE HOME TOWN TEAM DOESN'T THINK THIS KID IS GOOD ENOUGH WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN IS HE GOOD ENOUGH FOR MSU?

*********** Rumor Alert *********
One of the reasons Durham might not be looking at McGillis (and I can not confirm that he is) but not ready to pull the trigger, is that I hear he is very involved with a 6-5 small forward from Westchester H.S. in Los Angeles, who if he could sign would make an impact the first day he steps on the court. Selling point for MSU he would also like to play corner back or tight end.
All of this is rumor though!

Cat Pride...Wouldn't you like to know! Tell me your name and I'll tell you mine. I don't think that "defending him" was the right phrase to use there. "Justifying him" is more like it. I have interviewed McGillis a time or two. A dunk in his in a game last year grabbed my attention and I have closely watched his progression and growth since, which by the way, is progression unmatched by anyone I have watched play in many, many years.

A couple things that need to be considered about McGillis
1) Is he quick enough to play on the outside in the Big Sky? That is
probably where he will end up playing if he becomes a Cat. There have been a
number of good Montana kids who look good in high school in the 6'3" to 6'6'
’ range playing in the inside but when they have to move to the outside they
aren’t quick enough to play good D-1 ball.
2) Is he big and good enough to play power forward? If we would grow a
couple of more inches plus put on some weight, then maybe
What it boils down to he is tweener, small or power toward. These just are a couple of things Mick is asking about McGillis

What exactly is your fetish with this guy? Yeah he's a good player...there are a ton of good players out there. Are you this guy's agent or something? Do you get a cut of his tuition check?mthoops wrote:I know he is quick enough to come off a screen and nail a 3 in anyone's eye in the Big Sky, and only getting quicker. He is also growing taller and wider at a promising rate. (currently 6'6" 210lbs.)

'wbftg', aren't you the same guy on e-griz that can never sustain his negativity. I think you just recently (e-griz) called coach Steve Keller (former Helena High coach and current assistant at Carroll College) a loser and a duschbag, among other things. I have nothing to gain by exploiting McGillis' talents, but people have sure been taking notice. Obviously you don't think this kid has it.....Talk to me come March. I would hate to see this thread end up in the "Smack Talk" section, which is where you should focus your energy.

As for you and McGillis, I am not trying to talk smack, I'm just wondering how you are connected to him. I haven't seen him play so I don't know have a clue if he "has it" or not, and quite frankly I don't really like to think about recruiting for next season until this season is over. It just looks like all of your posts on this board are in some way connected to McGillis....not bobcat bball, not football...just McGillis, and I am just wondering why you are trying to convince us that he is such a great player? I'm not trying to talk smack, and if my last post came accross as negative, then I apologize...I really enjoy all of the inside information that you bring on the subject, and I'm glad that you have chosen to come on board to the bobcat nation.....I'm just crurious where you interests lay.
As for Keller....he is a waste of oxygen.

Very sincere 'wbtfg'. I guess you should have just stated your question like that in the first place, and I would have answered like this.....If you read earlier posts, you would know my "connection" to McGillis, which isn't much of one. I do keep up on this kid, however, as well as many other area athletes and coaches. My interests in discussing McGillis lye in the fact that he was never taken much notice of last year, but has developed and grown into a D1 talent.
On your comment about not worrying about recruiting until this season is over....Where and when do you plan on seeing or hearing about the incoming talent? It seems to me you Are taking an interest in recruiting for next year right hear on Bobcat Nation.
Keller's a Great coach.
