To me, it was absolutely hilarious during the whole Cat/gris game how Marty was continually trying to interject how great the friz players were but there was no substance to it. The Cats were so dominant that his accolades for the friz were literally baseless.
The three-man booth they've used for Cat/Griz is super awkward. IMO, they should just let the two announcers of the home team call the game. Marty can't go five seconds without hearing his own voice, so as long as he's there the other guy will be greatly overshadowed.
No they should announce the away game so when we play in Missoula and have to watch it on TV we get Gregorak.
Am I the only fan cat or griz that really enjoys Marty? I think he is awesome and so knowledgeable. I get that he's a griz homer but he's a likeable guy. That guy Gurnsey made me want to puke every time he said anything, Marty is so much better.
Yes, you are a unicorn. He’s horrible.

Huge mistake today. Listened to the gris podcast for the first time. Ughh. Terrible. They said if you take out the 88 yard AJ run, the gris d held the Cats below their average. So...I went back and took out all the big plays the Cats through the season. Turns out our offense is just average. Idiot gris logic
I mean, they are not wrong. If you factor out all of the plays where the Cats scored, the gris would have won!
This was the common narrative of the Adrian Peterson years with the Vikings. Technically, the run game sucked if you take out Adrian's long runs because he also had a lot of negative and short gains during games. I call it Packers logic...

I mean...are these guys really going to force me to break down every run in that game? Okay fine I'll do it. Stay tuned!

(Full disclosure...thought the Griz defense had a good game plan defensively and played really hard which usually happens in rivalry games. It just wasn't enough and the talent level won out.)
For my generation, the above describes Barry Sanders’ entire career. So many runs for losses but then he’d go 40. Most negative yards by a RB in NFL history with -1114 yards.

I think Marty does a nice job. I enjoy hearing his insights and rely enjoy his segment on Colter's show.
Totally agree. It took some getting used to, but Marty does a solid job and is entertaining. Same with Ty.

Besides, any version of Marty is exponentially better than having to hear Scott Gurnsey call a Cat-Gris game on TV.

Gurnsey and Mick Holien were/are the worst homers of any team in the country. Gurnsey could suck a bag of long dong silvers

Yeah....lame.
Weird flex when record since both were NCAA teams is only a couple apart. Almost like you have to create something positive anticipating the outcome of the game
If the situation was reversed we'd be doing the same.

I understand where Marty's detractors are coming from, but I've joined what seems to be the minority ranks that don't mind him. In some ways, his outspoken ways kind of remind me of John Madden--kind of. I will agree, though, that as an "add-on" to Ben and Ty, Marty needs to be instructed directly not to overshadow those two guys. It seemed Ty had some trouble trying to get the proverbial word-in-edgewise.

Another poster mentioned Mike C.'s mispronunciation of "Montana." As a native Montanan, I confess that, though he is very likely a great guy, his trouble with our state's name is odd to me, especially since he played here and has had ample opportunity to have it modeled for him by others.

Okay. Thanks for allowing me a voice on these minor issues. Off my little soapbox now. :)

The problem those three have is they’re all loud. It’d be fine if they could tone it down a bit. It’s tv not radio. We can see the action so we don’t need Ben’s dramatic call on every good play followed by either Marty or Ty or both giving a big blowhard breakdown. Sometimes less is more.

If we are going to comment on the commentators, then I'm going with Keaton Gillogly all day, everyday. Keaton is the best there is in Bobcat athletics right now and it's not even close. He is the most descriptive and exciting play by play guy out there and he knows Bobcat history. Ty is great on the X's and O's of the play and his humor is good, but there are things about his comments that annoy me sometimes. Marty's voice, volume, and folksy BS comments are just beyond irritating to me. Ben Creighton seems like a nice guy, but he is still learning and I hope he comes up with new material (get rid of or limit "tearing up the turf") on his calls and I hope he gets better on learning the history of the teams he is covering. Leo Davis comes up with some funny stuff that makes me crack up, but he is also still learning and has really improved throughout the year. I hope he sticks around. If Leo could inject some better details of what happened on the play with his already great humor, he would be perfect.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

Ty and Ben are by far the best BSC duo. Marty just talks way to much on normal broadcast so doesn't fit well on 3 man crew. He says "momentum" way to much.

Personally, I think Ben and Ty are a good team. However, when Marty jumps in… he is so loud and so quick to talk. If you watch any of the condensed versions of the game, you always hear Marty’s voice and hardly ever hear Ty’s voice because he never gets to talk until after Marty is done. If I didn’t know Marty’s history coaching in the NFL, I wouldn’t guess that he even knows his X’s and O’s that well.

Two little things that really annoy me about his announcing as well: He always says “wreck havoc” instead of “wreak havoc.” He also calls the play clock the shot clock.

Anyways… I am thankful we get Ben and Ty during the year and only have to put up with Marty at Cat-gris.
