Re: Montana Recruits 2016
I was surprised about McCracken as well so I did some digging. It looks like the MT Standard ran the article early (before the coaches could proof it), they ran it about 48 hours before the Gazette, Independent Record, etc... The MT Standard version had a ton of name misspellings and had Ryan Arntson listed as both second team and honorable mention, when it should have been McCracken second team and Arntson HM.

I haven't had time to check for other errors/omissions.

Yeah I noticed that too with Arnston. McCracken had a great last two seasons for Flathead. He will be a sleeper in this year's recruiting class and reminds me of Logan Jones from Glacier last year. 5'9", 195 lbs. who runs hard and is a threat in the passing game.dirten wrote:I was surprised about McCracken as well so I did some digging. jsparks wrote:Well i am probably biased as hell but here goes. There were two running backs other than Trefney with double the yards of Chapman in AA. Chapman had about 800 yds Grinde had about 1000. Trefney had 1600, Sparks had 1500 and McCraacken had 1400. Whats up with the All State voting ? Seems pretty predetermined and biased. Here is Sparks Highlights:
I would think coaches are aware of each of these players. Each good. However sometimes the players and coaches may have to make an extra effort to be recognized.
I know of walk on years back that college level coaches knew nothing of, but was encouraged by friends to walk on. Coaches timed his 40 and asked where the heck had he been hiding.
There are a couple thousand kids playing football in Montana, sometimes the kids gotta make themselves recognized.

What's the scoop on Fontelroy out of Whitefish? Is he a BSC kid or an NAIA kid? Love stealing kids from under the griz noses from northwestern MT.

Just not sure if he has the speed for the big sky...but he has the body. He is a solid PWO offer in my book.94VegasCat wrote:What's the scoop on Fontelroy out of Whitefish? Is he a BSC kid or an NAIA kid? Love stealing kids from under the griz noses from northwestern MT.

Trase LeTexier - Senior Year Tape!
6'3", 230 lbs. MLB
The stud linebacker from Class B power Jefferson High finished up his senior season as one of the best defensive players in Class B history, statistically. Led his team in tackles for three seasons (I think) and was a force every year since his sophomore year. A very good run stopper, he probably hits the hardest out of all the linebackers in this class. The only knock I have on Trase is his ability to cover which is why I think he will be a defensive end at the next level. He has the size to transition and I just think he would make a hell of a defensive end. But if he wants to play middle linebacker, he will have to improve on his speed if he wants to make it in the Big Sky. He has strong Griz ties with his family and he has been invited to games by them along with Jace Lewis (the other stud linebacker from 5B) so it wouldn't surprise me if he goes to the Griz. He is a borderline half-ride/PWO player who has a nose for the football. Plays with passion.

Great kid actually was a force starting his freshman year just didn't have the players to help him. Trace didn't stunt much because he was so good in coverage. saw him last week and I think he has put on another 10 pounds the boy is getting big. I'm hoping that MSU will offer him something. UM has contacted him and told him something is coming his way.Bemiller49 wrote:Big kid!VimSince03 wrote:Trase LeTexier - Senior Year Tape!

Vim--what do you know of or think of Tucker Maxwell from Lewistown? He's a big, strong kid. Good athlete. I'm 99.9% sure he'll be a Griz whether he has to walk-on or not. Just curious what you think of him.

Re: Montana Recruits 2016
Definitely a walk-on candidate. He is 6'3", 220 lbs. but compared to the other defensive ends coming out of Montana, I wouldn't put him in the top 10. His get off is a little slow, he doesn't use his hands, and he isn't as strong compared to the other top defensive ends. Also isn't as fluid of an athlete as the others. But I have no clue on his work ethic and kids improve if they work hard so he does have the frame to build on. Was First Team DE/OL for Fergus this year.LTown Cat wrote:Vim--what do you know of or think of Tucker Maxwell from Lewistown? He's a big, strong kid. Good athlete. I watched Trace play in the Class B playoffs this year against Huntley Project. Even though HP won that game against Jefferson, Trace was a man among boys. I was VERY impressed with his skills. Would love to see the Cats at least give him an offer.msufaithful wrote:Great kid actually was a force starting his freshman year just didn't have the players to help him. Re: Montana Recruits 2016
I think he is going Griz. Based off what I think I know. I have O'Reilly, Jobman, Finch, and Lewis ranked ahead of him at linebacker because I think they are a bit more athletic. But if Trase can be a North-to-South run stopper in a scheme, he is about as good as they will get out of Montana this year. I know guys said that he covered well but he reminds me a lot of Tucker Schye out of Malta a few years ago. An absolute thumper in the middle that is now a defensive end at UofM. They are about the same size.Camo_Cat wrote:I watched Trace play in the Class B playoffs this year against Huntley Project. Even though HP won that game against Jefferson, Trace was a man among boys. Vim, yes I agree that Chapman was well deserved selection as a defensive all state selection. I however disagree (and I please understand I am pretty biased) that Chapman should have been selected as 1st team on offense (it was not even close..... many other players performed better). You had a point that if he had more carries he WOULD of had the yards. Simple fact is that he did NOT have the carries or the yards. Neither did Grinde for that matter. Trefney is a no brainer, but Sparks and McCrakken should have been there instead of Chapman and Grinde. Sparks led AA with 6.4 yards per carry and had 1456 yards on 228 carries and led the State and finished ahead of Trefney for all purpose yards with 1816 to 1805. Chapman had 833 yards on a hundred and some carries and 6.3 yds per carry. Hard to explain to a teen-aged kid that politics overrides rational decision making. Early wake up call I suppose. Sparks (and me and I am sure Josh McCrakken) have figured out that the all state selection process is a sham at least at the AA level.

Re: Montana Recruits 2016
I agree with you that the yards are the yards. But the "body of work" gets kids recognition when they at times don't deserve it over others. For example, why do they put in all-state selections at the beginning of the year? I believe Alec Nehring, the QB from Manhattan, got All-State this year in Class B but did not make first team on offense or defense in 5B. I am with you that Balue Chapman probably didn't deserve to be a first-team running back. Statistics have been ignored at every level of football in regards to award selections (I mean the NFL Pro Bowl?) for years. Sam needs to keep his head up and know that he is a good football player, regardless of a postseason award. Talent gets recognized along with stats.jsparks wrote:Vim, yes I agree that Chapman was well deserved selection as a defensive all state selection. I am glad the people here are so for watching and pulling for Montana kids. There is little talk about Montana kids on the egriz site. Just one more thing that makes me glad to be a Bobcat.
