O-Line-Find a couple of tough guys to transfer in and provide leadership. Think Figueroa only bigger. Person and DeCock will fill out 2 spots as of now, with Sonsini competing.
Backs-Rolovich maintains his spot and grows with experience. Groves and Mason must get healthy. Mason needs to be mentally tougher.
I think it'll be a helluva QB battle come spring with Rolo,Carp & Rasmussen- wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Rasmussen come out on top.
Tight ends- Pretty well set. Barnhardt and Bostick are pretty good. Schreibeis and Begger will provide excellent depth.
Receivers-Lewis will return and everyone knows he is fast. Would like to root for Lulay, Green, Desin & Co., but there will be at least 2 new faces brought in to compete. That's right 2 transfer wr's.
Two new WR's wouldn't be a surprise- need a Jefferson type, but with the new rule it would be a minimum two year transfer.
D-Line-Pretty well established. Norris will step in as will Bobo. Papich will have a good year and Kinkelaar and the boys will provide depth. Expect 2-3 HS signees and 1 transfer.
Linebacker-This has been the key to the defense for the last 3 years. King may be a question (health). Claggett will return as will Matthews. As for Daly, well..he's Daly. Probably another honorable mention or somethin'..cause he ain't any good?! Fletcher will see the field as well. O'Connell and McCracken are unknown right now. Probably sign 2 to 3. One from Montana.
Secondary-Now it gets interesting. Austin returns and will lead the league in passes defended again. Will probably make the Eastern AA All Conference 2nd Team. Retoriano is undersized, but has heart. Gazzero could find himself in the secondary, but needs to be on the field. Will Beach be able to handle the other corner? Who will emerge as the safeties-Gazzero, Retoriano, Brown, Rider, Retoriano or Williams? Corners- Austin and ? Beach, Black, Briggs, Palmer or Steffen. Is there a chance that Fuller is acquitted and rejoins the team?(doubtful) Up to 5 signees. 2 transfers, 3 prep kids.
I wouldn't count on Fuller.
It's a mixed bag. Solid in a number of spots, but holes to fill. That's what Spring ball is all about. The coaches will identify the needs and recruit accordingly. 2007 has the possibilty of being a year of tremendous growth in the program. On and off the field. I trust that those in charge will be just that. In charge!
Prediction: Top 2 in the conference, win season ender at home, host at least the 1st round of the playoffs and play in the 3rd round.

Man if I'd known Papich and Jensen were gone, I might've only had us winning 8 games.Bay Area Cat wrote:What happened to Papich?kstack wrote:I just like egging on you football fanatics. It seems like it would be hard to predict though considering the uncertainty at the PB, RB and WR positions. Even at OL, Jensen, Birkeland, and Hirst are gone. Nobody knows starters next year, maybe Mason is a certainty. But now with Force, Fuller, Papich and Lowe, and Siataga off the D, it's kinda hard to tell what this team will even look like. Just throwing that out there. Who are the probables to replace those guys?

You can't slip up for one second with this group.kstack wrote:Haha, ease up on me guys. I'm gonna start bringing the facts now. I think I need to step my game up.
If you come with: "I'm really concerned about Smith playing in the game this week after the injury he sustained in Chem Lab. A jar of sulfuric acid broke and cut his left middle finger pretty badly, requiring 6 stitches."
Someone will reply with: "It was his left middle finger? I had heard that the cut was below the knuckle on his left ring finger."
And someone else will reply with: "If it were Charles Norice, his finger would have cut the glass."
And so on...

Didn't someone say that we were only recruiting 1 LB because we have so much depth there, and that was the reason Dan Raunig has not been given any thought?083190 wrote:Linebacker-This has been the key to the defense for the last 3 years.
