A beast though that once you get him going forward and towards the play is useless if you run a misdirection play. I was watching him and he he goes all out no question, but when he is out of the play he just stops and cannot change direction. Misdirection and off tackle trap type blocking could be the plays of the game against him etc. I also don't think he will be as much of a factor on a wet surface either. The boys in the middle on the OL better eat their wheaties though as its going to be a snotfest in the middle there that is for sure.ursusmissoulus wrote:Check out the guy (#43) in the middle of PSU's D line. I agree, the last couple years PSU has been one of the punkiest teams in the Sky. Lots of late hits, cheap shots, etc. People talk Walsh up as a great coach all the time, but he either encourages unsportsmanlike behavior, or has no control over his players. Special Teams their guys are quick, however their TD this weekend was simply from about 5 missed holding calls. I'd think outside of Oregon (the "home-cookin' state) they'll get dinged more.
IMO, here's how to beat PSU.
On D;
1. Keep a saftey deep. Their QB will over throw a few passes, and seems to like going for the deep ball. Don't get burned, and with a guy floating back there you stand the chance of getting a pick or two.
2. Don't let the WRs get past the corners, they're quick, as the Griz found out.
3. Stuff the middle. Take away PSU's pounding the middle attack and you then created 2nd and long instead of 2nd and 3-5. PSU loses their gameplan when they don't gain 4-5 yards per carry.
On O;
1. Short/middle passes, look for the sideline and quick hitters. Stay out of the middle, as best you can. Their D will bite on screens. Against Montana PSU seemed a little cocky that they could just stuff the middle and the Griz had a lot of success with draws, delays and mis-directions up the middle.
2. Push the DL, if you cannot push them back, or open holes, you're sunk.
3. Mistake-free ball. PSU thrives on turnovers, penalties and mistakes.
On ST;
Kick short, don't let them get set-up, if their returners get full speed and a few blockers, it gets ugly. Give them a low-roller or high squib, don't let them get full speed on ya.
In the spirit of this post, here's your tips on how to beat Suc St;
1. Show up
2. Suit up
3. Take the field
That will garuntee at least 21 points right there.
