I can find literally nothing from Yale, media-wise. No press conferences, nothing. Anyone else having any luck? Colter, was curious if you've made any contact out there, what you're finding, will you get to interview their coach, etc? Seems odd their coach doesn't talk to the press or if so it isn't available anywhere.
When the draw was Yale, I got really excited because I’m a nerd who loves learning about new schools and football programs. Obviously, everyone knows about Yale broadly but very interested in learning more about this team. So I fired off interview request emails on Sunday morning which is about 36 hours earlier than I usually do. I have heard nothing :/
I took a peek at that cesspool AKA egriz and that well known old poster is at it again. He said he sent his Bobcat scouting report to Yale coaches and they were very appreciative and thanked him for it. You can't make this stuff up.
I figured out who is really is.
I thought everyone knew who it was....
Hey Colter, any comment on arguably the statistically worst kicker in the conference getting named to the honorable mention team? How does something like that happen?
Montana has made one field goal since October 1. Seems impossible that kicker would get all conference.
Then again, I thought Montana's two best defensive performers were CB Kenzel Lawler & S Micah Harper...and neither was among the 18 Griz named all-conference.
Yet Montana State had only two offensive linemen get nods, including the best center in the conference in JT Reed getting HM. And the 'Cats highest graded OL Braden Zimmer got nothing....and the best secondary in the conference got the MVP in Caden Dowler and nothing else
Two changes I would make to the all-league voting:
1. Can't have broad strokes OL and DB positions. Need to have specific positions, particularly between center, guard and tackle on offense, safety, corner and nickel on defense. Ty Okada got screwed two years in a row because he plays NICKEL and he was not properly evaluated amongst DBs or LBs (he was nominated at both) because nickel is a SPECIFIC position. Oh, right, the one he now starts in the NFL at.
2. If you are on a team that wins 1/3 or less of your games, you are disqualified from making first-team all-conference. Period. Don't care if you have the greatest stats in the history of college football. If your team goes 3-9, your stats meant jack ******. It's like winning the scoring title when you're Gilbert Arenas or Carmelo Anthony for teams that win nothing. You can be the scoring champ. You don't get to be the MVP or first-team All-NBA. The fact that Northern Colorado and Weber State had guys who were first-team all-conference is stupid.
Last thought: The Cats got the most individual awards - Dowler, Lamson, Vigen — and that seems to always then mean less all-conference spots. It's totally weird.
Last last thought - This is a league in which Alex SIngleton was honorable mention All-Big Sky after rolling up 120 tackles and leading the conference with 16.5 tackles for loss in 2013. So take that for what it's worth....
Seems broke and needs fixing.
It will never be fixed. Not in a 12-team league where teams play 8 conference games (soon to be nine). You miss 3-4 teams every single year so you are blindly voting on a third of the conference.
There's also a preconceived bias against the Montana schools. The rest of the conference, from administrators to coaches, think the Griz and the Cats have all the advantages, all the money and treat them like rich kids at a poor kids' school, even though that's not reality. They changed the rule to give the league champion and second place team the most guaranteed spots on the first and second team all conference. But it's still skewed.
Granted, of the 100 guys on the list, 34 were from Montana and Montana State. But trust me when I saw that's the maximum the league coaches would have allowed. They don't want the Griz and the Cats to win all the awards because they think it helps them in recruiting even more.
This is actually even more true in several other sports than it is in football. For example, Montana men's basketball has won the conference 8 times and been to the NCAA Tournament 11 times since 1992....and has had one league MVP....in a year they did not win the league or go to the NCAA Tournament.
I could make a list with at least 50 and probably more like 100 reasons why Montana and Montana State should get out of the Big Sky Conference. This is just a tiny part of a much bigger issue....
Release the list!
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

I thought it was about the worst the conference has done in regards to who made the lists.
I understand they don’t want it to all be MSU/UM players, buuuuuut it kinda should be! Seems like they’re trying to go for parity in a sport where it doesn’t exist.
Programming note: we had two features about Yale planned plus I had planned on having head coach Tony Reno, his QB son Dante Reno and lone team captain Josh Pitsenberger on the podcast/radio show....but Yale declined all interview requests this week. So lame, was really looking forward to it...

I agree though. That is so lame. Will taking a few minutes this week to talk football really hurt their preparation?

It drives me bananas! My whole format is talking ball....it's literally a free advertisement for you to talk about your university and your football program and your philosophies....But I guess Yale doesn't need any more publicity. I was just really excited to talk to them. Seems like such a missed opportunity.

That is too bad, Yeah it is really difficult to find anything on this team.
One of the most enjoyable parts of playoff football is learning something about teams we rarely see. It just seems really weird that they are such isolationist.
I hope they enjoy the trip to Bozeman and hope a few will at least walk through the tailgates and say hi.

Probably need the time to study for finals, since taking exams is all they will be doing next week.

I was excited for it too. Someone new to play for a change, new coach to listen to, etc. But they literally have no content out there from any game this season. Sucks but oh well. Will be a new to us team next week too.

If we get to play SFA next week, maybe you could ask the AD how he feels about sending his team to Bozeman after canceling.

It’s true that Yale doesn’t need to promote their school but one look at the attendance numbers for their football games and they could use some promotion there.
If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!
