MSU has built and is building the kind of advantages in infrastructure that will draw the right candidates and maintain success. I don’t want to see Vigen leave, but whenever that happens the Cats will be fine.
They will be fine but it will be similar to what happened in Idaho and SDSU last year.

If Brent leaves, id imagine Bobby Daly and Shawn Howe jump to the top of the HC candidate list.

I’d be surprised if it was that bad.

I wish we could find a coach that would stay.

I wish the salary at Montana state wasn’t as large as it is to the bottom/mid tier group of 5 teams

I think he takes if offered. Could he get Wisconsin, tcu, AZ state if dillingham leaves? Yeah maybe but the 3 milly per year bird in the hand is going to be hard to turn down.
And just being realistic, the high end FCS coaches are not jumping to P4 jobs. PAC?/MWC is about right.
Yep and this is a pretty good one given the money and the opportunity at the big playoff.

Rob Ash wanted to stay
Precisely.

I promise all of you, you don’t want a coach that will stay.

I think Howe would go with Vigen. I’ll take Daly.

Maybe Polisek will get the hire. I think Vigen stays. I might be totally wrong but that's the narrative I'm going with right now. He's not done yet. After winning the natty, perhaps, but not until then.

Losing Sean Herrin would be a huge blow.

Didn’t Craig Bohl accept the Wyo job and then coach the playoffs or was that Kleiman? Maybe before the portal days that was easier.

Matt Entz, NDSU's previous head coach did it two seasons ago when he left to take an assistant job with USC. Not sure if Kleiman did the same.

If we are wishing for things: I wish the NCAA would ban coaching interviews during the season & move the portal to after the season is over.

Should be an SMU style 'death sentence' for any program interviewing for a new coach during the season.

They really can’t.

Portal has to somewhat lineup with end of season and semester (or quarters) change. None of it is ideal, for anybody, but it is the unfortunate reality.

Why? Thats 9 full months before the season starts. Are you expecting us to take seriously that only giving a player 8 months or 7 months isnt enough?

High School national signing day is Feb 4. Theres literally zero downside to moving the portal from Jan 20-Feb 4. And a lot of upside. Heck, I don't really see a problem moving the portal to May 1-15, after spring semester is finished.

(Yes, transfer students wouldn't be able to be on their new squads for Spring practice. Thats 100% the point)

The only people this hurts are teams that decided to fire their coach mid season. Doesn't really feel normal to reward schools that do that.

The NFL doesn't open up free agency until March. Teams are prohibited from interviewing coaches in person until after the divisional round. If the NFL can put reasonable rules in place to protect the integrity of the playoffs, I don't see why the NCAA wouldn't do the same.

Theres other things the NCAA could do if it were serious about the integrity of the game

How about requiring permission from an existing employer before interviewing a new coach?

Everybody wants to have a coach hired before the portal and signing day. They need at least a month to recruit.

You’re looking at this through the lens of an FCS fan. We don’t matter in the grand scheme. The rules are made for the ones at the top, and having transfers enroll in the summer messes things up big time for them.

If Vigen leaves I think the most best replacement for him would be Bobby Daly.
This guy epitomizes being a bobcat.
