Whoever they put in there was going to be a sure win, so it doesn't really matter if it's Mercyhurst or Drake or Butler....I don't see MSU taking the risk of playing another good opponent after starting with Oregon and SDSU. I think MSU has a better than 50-50 chance of beating SDSU, but even if it does if there's another strong opponent following that game and they lose that, they're right back where they started.

This is a better (more competitive) non-conference schedule than the one MSU is currently playing. Mercyhurst is likely to be better next year, but probably still not super competitive.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

It makes sense given the circumstances but it’s almost impossible to be interested in seeing this game as a fan. This is the first game in 20 years that I just don’t want to go see. Especially not twice.
Maybe that will open up seating for some of us. Might have to plan ahead.

Why would either school agree to this? It's of no benefit to either program...
I think we need to respect our opponent and play whoever is in front of us on the schedule. 8)
True, and I posted that exact thing on another thread, which I am guessing you're alluding to. Our team should always possess that attitude. Doesn't mean I have to like it...
I agree with you…I was being a bit cheeky. :D I don’t like it either but you already knew that. Ha

Maybe Oregon will buy MSU out and the Bobcats can get 8 home games

I'd take an Oregon buy out and a rematch against Oregon State. Essentially double dip.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Respect is something deserved, and earned, bestowed by others. Another Mercyhurst beatdown will bring no respect, but only contempt. A bye week would bring more benefits.

I guarantee if Leon’s solution was 2 consecutive bye weeks people would be irate.

Interesting take. 11 games in a 12 game season probably hurts more than it helps.

That's just silly. Do you think when the power 5 schedule Idaho State they think that?

Food for thought. Mercyhurst is the third worst team around.

What's the food for thought? Top 10 Miami played Ball State this year who is a bottom 10 FBS team. All but 4 or 5 FBS teams play an FCS team every season. :-k 3 BSC schools are playing Western Oregon this year... a DII team that doesn't even count as a win. A same subdivision win is better than no win at all.

Exactly! Happens every year. FCS teams play lower level FCS teams or even D2 or NAIA. NAU played frigin Lincoln College, California this year and that's not even a real football team! The same type of thing happens at the FBS level. FBS teams play lower level FBS teams or FCS teams. Heck, I mentioned this in another thread. MW schools are playing Utah Tech, MSU, Northern Colorado, Sac State, Idaho, Merrimack, Portland State, Northern Iowa, Robert Morris, Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Delaware State, etc. Not exactly a murderers row of FCS teams on their schedules.

Aside from another sellout. Money generated. Great for the university. Great for Bozeman. Having a bye will never have more benefits than an actual home game, regardless of the competition.

iltc is right! I coached a pretty bad basketball team one year. Got beat by 60 points in one game. I can tell you from my experience even the losing team prefers a game over another practice or the day off.

That's pretty cool actually. Regardless of the outcome of the game, it's a cool opportunity for these kids to see another part of the country. Seems like a great head coach and some good kids. Hope our crowd is rocking to start the game.
