Yeah I know you're not claiming he's the next CB, but I sure like the comparison!BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 4:14 pmI should clarify that I meant that by playing style. Hard to say about impact when he hasn’t played since HS.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 4:09 pmWow, if we got 2 years of Chase Benson out of this guy I'd be ecstatic. To me the most underrated piece of that defense for a couple years...even by the people who knew he was good!BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:35 amHe’s not the biggest iDL, but appears to be plenty strong.
Somewhat reminiscent of Chase Benson, who wasn’t especially big, but was very strong. Here’s to hoping this guy can have a similar impact.

Thanks, I don't know what half the things these programs do. Sometimes it is really simple like this.

I would think we could add AJ Tanupo to that rotation as well. I’m not positive that he will play his first year but with how physically developed he is I’m assuming he’ll be ready.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:59 pmAn interior rotation of Schmidt, Brott (who had a sneaky really good year on film), Black, and Eckert is rock solid. The edge rotation will be better next year. Figure out LB and S depth and our defense should be great.

Yup, I think the interior DL could be one of our best position groups…. Which is pretty crazy considering we lost Valdez.
Also really like the DE’s. Excited to see Zac Crews continued development.

That #5 DT will be a great battle of talented youth. Rfr. Hunter Sharbono, Talon Marsh, and Ryder Trujillo are all going to be a year into the strength and development program at MSU. AJ and Hudson Wiens are two of the best interior DL recruits out of any team in the FCS. Its going to be a fun few years in 2025 and 2026 with this group (if they all stick together).BornBobcat2000 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:29 amI would think we could add AJ Tanupo to that rotation as well. Re: Alec Eckert….beast!!
Going into 2023, 2024 was always "the year" but then the defense showed a sizeable deal of improvement, and it looked like an SDSU vs MSU showdown in the title game was just a formality and 2023 might be "the year". It's back to 2024 being "the year" again with the players MSU has coming back and coming into the program. The defense needs better depth at LB and STs needs a kicker, but MSU looks really solid going into 2024.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 10:15 amThat #5 DT will be a great battle of talented youth. Is Marsh a fullback or a DL?

2024 roster had him as a FB when they updated to the new year but now he's back as a DL. I was thinking possibly a spring ball experiment. Max Murphy had a good spring game in my opinion last year at FB. I think he'll be a nice piece once he gets big enough. We REALLY missed the H-back position in the second half of the year when Snell went down. Lonergan did his best but he's always been more of a receiving TE.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 10:50 amGoing into 2023, 2024 was always "the year" but then the defense showed a sizeable deal of improvement, and it looked like an SDSU vs MSU showdown in the title game was just a formality and 2023 might be "the year". Re: Alec Eckert….beast!!
Sharbono got hurt last fall so he may be a little behind but he's adding good weight. If Talon could get up to around 265-270, he'll have a shot to compete. Ryder is a longer body-type that could possibly be a strong-side end. Not sure with him but they all should have a shot. My money right now says Talon will be in competition with Eckert, Black, & Brott.msubobcat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 12:59 pmAny insight who would be listed as 5th to start spring?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 10:15 amThat #5 DT will be a great battle of talented youth.

Re: Alec Eckert….beast!!
Who is this Korom fellow? I don't believe I've seen his name before. Is he new or am I just getting forgetful in my old age?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 1:06 pmSharbono got hurt last fall so he may be a little behind but he's adding good weight. Edit: I see his bio says he joined us last spring? I seemed to have missed that, any chance he has an impact?

Walk on out of D2 Minnesota (from Bismark originally). He'll have a shot to this spring but it may end up being more of a tryout.technoCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 1:10 pmWho is this Korom fellow?
