It sucks but I think you may be right.grizatwork wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 9:45 pmI would say it is the opposite. You are being hit hard in the portal because of what is right with your program. Good recruits who have been developed into great players. It sounds weird, but it is a nice problem to have. Kind of like going to a party with the prettiest girl.

Re: Quarters
Agree with this. Its a lot like having good coaches like Freddy Banks & Kane Ione move up. If I'm a HS recruit thats sort of a tweener for FBS (too small , too slow, inexperienced, played on the wrong style team, etc) I might ride the bench at a top G5 or bottom P5 school.nanacat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 9:25 amIt sucks but I think you may be right.grizatwork wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 9:45 pmI would say it is the opposite. But that talent may well get me on the field at MSU & let me transfer to a better program with more NIL in the future.
In the past, it was common for MSU to recruit 2 star players, let them redshirt, then play sparingly for 2 years, then be a starter in year 4/5.
The portal may well give MSU the chance to compete for (more) 3-star and 4-star recruits. MSU still gets them for 2 years (same as in the olden times) but then they can transfer on.
At least, thats the most positive way I can spin. it.

Re: Quarters
I agree, and I think the coaches are looking at the higher level guys as ones who can play right away. Because if they're not ready to play now, you're just going to develop them for someone else with no benefit to you. Don't even waste your time with those guys (the ones who aren't ready to play now but might be lured away later) unless you think you can just make them fall in love with Bozeman, MSU, and the program.onceacat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:10 amAgree with this. Just gotta change the way you do things. There's still the same number of guys playing football, theoretically. Water finds its level and hopefully MSU is active enough and attractive enough that we get the drop-downs displaced by the move-ups. Still sucks though...you'd love to have guys there 5 years that love their university and want to come back forever, give money someday, etc.

Furman just embarrassed the griz D by throw a slant against a blitzing D... what a f*cking concept... hope House take notes.

Re: Quarters
I agree with everything except the development part. If a guy isnt ready to play on Day 1, its not as though he's going to have a bunch of tape to transfer until he starts. Seems like these are a lot of the Montana guys.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:26 amI agree, and I think the coaches are looking at the higher level guys as ones who can play right away. But when I think of guys like Ifanse or Omar...it was really great to have them while they were here. (Note: If Denarius McGhee or Lualy transferred as juniors, I might have different thoughts).

And the Furman D looks like the 21 Cat D on the Griz opening possession.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 8:11 pmFurman just embarrassed the griz D by throw a slant against a blitzing D... what a f*cking concept... hope House take notes.

Re: Quarters
They're stopping the RBs well but can't contain McDowell. He is killing them running it.

Re: Quarters
First one to 50 wins????
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do, but 48-23 may be the best of all.

Re: Quarters
Better D than MSU. Have a QB who can 1) pass and 2) read the blitz.
And UM can kick FGs.

They need a score. Going into half with the lead would just piss off Beavis.
Go Palladins!
