Just a guess:DaCats21 wrote:Does anyone know which coaches are recruiting what areas now?
Coach Choate: goes everywhere but has been after some Seattle area kids
Coach Gregorak: Idaho, Montana, Washington, and watch out for Colorado area with Ty
Coach Pitre: Northern California with some Southern California and Oregon. He has been such an asset the last two years if you pay attention to who he has brought here.
Coach Hout: has been after Idaho kids and some Washington
Coach Miller: Idaho, Texas, California (probably could be involved in Montana recruiting sooner than later)
Coach Armstrong: Montana, Texas, California, and even some Florida
Coach Beck: has continued his Texas recruiting (also, Beck, Pitre, and Ioane were critical to keeping our verbals interested during the coaching change)
Coach Ioane: still mainly SoCal with a mix of Texas in there
Coach Alexander: a lot of California but he could start up recruiting anywhere because of his connections
Coach Messingham: Strong Midwest ties so I would assume we will continue to get involved in that area
Coach Robertson: Montana!

Vim--what is your guess on how long some of these guys like Chapman and Benson who are waiting on an FBS offer will wait to commit? Will they let it ride right up to signing day or do you think they'll end up committing in January?

Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
I'd say they aren't going to commit until after visits. If you think about it from their perspective, it is probably wise to wait and see what both schools have to offer on visits as well as potential other schools. LTown Cat, it is time to buckle up and get on that recruiting ride of "will they or won't they!"LTown Cat wrote:Vim--what is your guess on how long some of these guys like Chapman and Benson who are waiting on an FBS offer will wait to commit? Dajour Nesbeth 6'1", 180 lbs. CB FL Winter Garden
Brian Armstrong and Jeff Choate have Florida connections so it wouldn't surprise me if we started to pull high schoolers from there.

Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
Not saying they can't work out, but personally I don't think we should be expending a great deal of time & money on recruiting Florida. Sure, there are a ton of great athletes down there, and lord knows we need some speed on our team. It's just so far away, though. I think our success rate with those kids is likely to be pretty poor - not only in recruiting them to Bozeman, but keeping them there once they come. That's an awful long way from family, not to mention a pretty crazy culture shock. With the Cali kids, it's cheaper for coaches to fly there to recruit, plus the fact that we play down there almost every year helps a lot with the family thing. I don't know, just my thoughts. If they pan out, I'd sure love some of that down-South speed though!VimSince03 wrote:New prospects:

Absolutely agree. Totally different culture, climate, and 2500 miles from home. Recruiting would be tough, and retention would be even tougher.BozoneCat wrote:Not saying they can't work out, but personally I don't think we should be expending a great deal of time & money on recruiting Florida. I'd like to see us stick with Texas and the west coast, and maybe get more into the Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois areas. NDSU seems to do well there... I loved that we pulled Joey Marinello out of there, but unfortunately he left last year for some reason.

Speed, speed, speed! I agree on some of your points though. We haven't exactly been knocking it out of the park with California recruits in the secondary lately. Regardless, these are just kids that the coaches follow on Twitter so I don't know about offers. Just interest.BozoneCat wrote:Not saying they can't work out, but personally I don't think we should be expending a great deal of time & money on recruiting Florida. Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
Do you think that having Sandland on the team opened up a connection or two in the Miami area? Maybe a couple of coaches he met or knew in relation to the Miami program? Pure speculation on my part, but to suddenly have a few names pop up, including 4 from the same school, makes it seem plausible.VimSince03 wrote:Speed, speed, speed! Doubtful. Brian Armstrong used to coach high school in Florida. That's why we see recruiting action down there.tdub wrote:Do you think that having Sandland on the team opened up a connection or two in the Miami area? From Rocky's website: Armstrong comes to RMC after having been the head football coach at Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Fla., where he compiled a 21-6 record in two years. In his two years, his teams won two District 10 titles and were regional finalists in 2005 and regional semi-finalists in 2006. Armstrong was also voted regional and District 10 "Coach of the Year" while at Kathleen.
Before taking the head coaching position at Kathleen, Armstrong spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons as a graduate assistant at Utah State University, working with the offensive line and special teams.
During the 2001 season Armstrong worked as an assistant coach at Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Fla., before being named the head coach there in 2002. His Lake Gibson team went 11-3, winning the District 4A-7 championship and making it to the regional finals. For his teams efforts, Armstrong was named District 7 "Coach of the Year," Lakeland Ledger "Coach of the Year," and Tampa Tribune "Coach of the Year."

That makes much more sense. Especially being the 4 kids are from Lakeland. Thanks for the info.DaCats21 wrote:Doubtful. Brian Armstrong used to coach high school in Florida. Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
I would not mind seeing some fl recruits come as long as we keep tx ca and expand the Wa and or areas as well. As stated we need speed and I love the idea of being a "national" team at FCS. More exposer is never a bad thing and Flordia Texas and California are great speed states. If we also get more mid west big guys look out. I'm very curious on who we end up getting from where but lots of guys are looking good

Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
Coach Armstrong had some success at Rocky with FL players due to his connections down there. Expect to see some FL players sign with the Cats. They will add some much needed team speed to the roster.
