I think you hit the nail on the head.

I hope they will come around, but will it be soon enough is the $$$ question. We can not afford to lose to SFA at home, because there is no gimmie on our schedule. The D needs to be in order as soon as the first game is in the books.

One other Q I have is, with the linebackers thinking swarm to the ball and stop the run first, will we be more suseptable to fakes and counters? I am thinking we will give up more big plays via the run. More pressure on Force to make TD saving tackle as well.
The D is going to be interesting to see. In the scrimmage who was the 1st team DL? And who do you see being the 1st team DL (Minus Matakis until October)? Papich/Saucedo/Kolone???? I didn't get to see the scrimmage so I am wondering who they have in at 1st team right now and who is projected to be the starters in the home opener etc.

Yeah, I guess Peerboom is at least equal to Carpenter. We'll find out soon enough.

First team was (I believe) Saucedo, Papich, and Rogers.

If you look at most of the strong 3-4 defenses in the NFL there is at least 2-3 guys at initial impact with another 2-3 coming in later on inside running plays. The 3-4 the LB's have to react and swarm almost with no regard as that is it's strength (if they do that then the OL has no way to to match up and block everyone). The Partiots/Steelers/Chargers do that very well. I'm just wondering if our LB"s are still in the 4-3 read/react mode where it's more watching the DL in front of them and lining up to fill the gap etc. The 3-4 the LB's have to have a frenzy attitude to them and play the ball carrier, not react of the DL gaps etc. I'm not an expert on this, but I watched the 3-4 pretty good last year for my Bolts and that is how they seemed to play the run (and NO ONE ran on them last year). So maybe this will take a little while longer until the LB's get out of some of their old 4-3 habits of playing the run etc.
it is going to take the cats a little bit to adjust to the 3-4. these kids are college students first and also have to get a job over the summer, i think T.L. moved furnature this summer fyi.

basically give these kids a break, they are adjusting to a new D sceme and playing against one of the best o's in the league that is going to be even better next year.

btw i can see bass lineing in a split back set w/dom and then motioning out into the slot....

Very good point Hells Bells, I'm sure a lot of them are just getting back into the college groove etc. I'm sure a lot of players will get a lot better in the current system as time goes on. Last year was totally proof positive of that when you look at our WR corp early on.

How about the offense? Are they running a lot of no huddle and shotgun like last year or are the running the conventional look with the quarterback under center? Although it is exciting to watch the no huddle and shotgun, we need to have Lulay under center more to have a balanced attack and keep the defense honest.

It is tough to say what the cats will be doing this year when it comes to the no huddle or shotgun. The scrimmage didn't have much with the ones but when it did, I think there was a lot of focus on the run from what i saw(someone feel free to correct me if they feel otherwise). We might not see what they will be doing with playcalling until that first game...plus you don't want to give away all your secrets now do you

One thing I noticed quite a bit of offensively was motioning. There was motions into a different set almost EVERY single play. It is really going to keep defenses on their toes.

Given the fact that we're going up against a Big 12 team that played in a bowl game a season ago, I doubt that we'll see a whole lot of things we'll see after game 1. My guess is our OSU gameplan will be pretty "vanilla" unless we keep it close for more than a quarter or 2...
