I already did. Said 2,500 and add maybe up to 4000 if expand stadium. While a few will get to a level to make significant contributions I don't believe we add seating now and take away from those alumni already attending or the ones that want to but can't. That has been expressed a lot on this board. Current alumni who are funding did not have anywhere close to the game day experiences these students get now. Can students who want to go to every game, no. But seems like they can make a few. I know several students last few years, kids of friends, who did attend every game. Maybe they were just lucky.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 1:45 pmFewer fans in general attend basketball and volleyball as well. You could answer your own question for us. Student tickets are gone within like 15 minutes or something I've heard. Really fast. There's a demand for it because there's tons of kids there for the experience. More seats doesn’t mean more fans. The ones that will be fans for life are already fans. I get why some of you would think students in seats equals more fans for life, but I just dont think that's the case. The kids in the seats below the walkway are the fans for life.
You want to have a bigger number of seats sit empty when kids go home to house parties at halftime and don't come back?

I would expect the number of student seats to increase with the expansion. As it is, there have been many games over the years when every student who wanted a ticket got one. Whenever you see the $10 second ticket, then that's the case.
The Mercyhurst game didn't sell out of student seats until the second day. The athletics dept had to make a social media blitz to encourage students to get there ticket, and only then did it sell out.

Yes, but the game still sold out without the $10 offer. Plenty of demand even for Mercyhurst.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 8:47 amEven the students knew Mercyhurst wasn't a game worth going to.ClowderUp wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 8:40 amI would expect the number of student seats to increase with the expansion. I was making the point to counter the people saying there's never any hope for students to ever watch a game under the current seating arrangement. A few posts were overblown.

You have no idea how those kids got their tickets. They could have purchased them on the secondary market. You asked “should all 17,000 go to students?”. That seems to be quite the exaggeration for the discussion in hand. I don’t think anybody has stated that. Right now, there are no options available for increased student allocation as we are at capacity on a regular basis. With an expansion of the statdium, we should increase the amount allocated to students. I would suggest the same percentage of seats for students as we currently have. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have the actual number being allocated to students.RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 11:13 amI know he wasn't saying that, the question stated is "What is the demarcation line?"Cataholic wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 6:15 pmCome on man. said happens at times as well. There is no doubt most games there is more demand than tickets but that isn't exclusive to Students. It is for all tickets.
UM seems to be 2500 to 3000. Bigger stadium so lower %of seats but higher per enrollment.
Oregon 6000 but issues with overselling
Other large SEC and Big Ten range 8-30% of total seating.
Demand has go up as enrollment has but overall interest has as well. Stadium hasn't gotten bigger.

Since most of the discussion is based on when/if we expand the stadium, to bring it back to reality it would be nice if they opened up the "unsold" seats to the opposite market at a certain time each week, like 24 hours before the game. If there are unsold SRO or seated tickets outside the student section let students have them and if somehow not all the student tickets are taken open them up to the general public.

Re: Stadium Expansion News For East Side?
That seems like a logistical nightmare and a potential loss of revenue for MSU to give extra free tickets to students that could otherwise be purchased by other fans the day of the game. Students who don't get one of the free tickets always have the option to buy one instead either directly if tickets are still available or through the secondary market. Either way, the demand is clearly there for a significantly larger overall stadium capacity.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:25 pmSince most of the discussion is based on when/if we expand the stadium, to bring it back to reality it would be nice if they opened up the "unsold" seats to the opposite market at a certain time each week, like 24 hours before the game. "Really fast" - I don't know how quickly the tickets sell out for every game, but I know that for high demand games they have to be on their computer/phone immediately when the tickets go for sale in order to have a chance. They've sold out within a couple minutes, which also causes problems because then half of the group didn't get lucky enough to get their tickets so now their plans to go to the game together are messed up.lutecat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 6:51 amStudent tickets are gone within like 15 minutes or something I've heard. "there for the experience" - seems like a great many of the non-student attendees I talk to at the games/tailgates.
"more seats doesn’t mean more fans. The ones that will be fans for life are already fans" - Do you really think that every student who will be a lifetime fan of MSU was already a lifetime fan before they set foot on campus? No one is saying that every student that attends a game is going to be a hardcore fan, but it certainly helps convert them.
"The kids in the seats below the walkway are the fans for life." - My daughter and her friends are students and fans. They've had a hard time getting into the student seats below the walkway because they're so crowded. They've had to sit elsewhere most of the games. For the Mercyhurst game, they had to get to the seats two hours before the game to get seats there and we all know that was not a high demand game. I suspect the student seats are way oversold. And IMO, the kids in the seats below the walkway are just as likely to just be "there for the experience" as anyone else.
"You want to have a bigger number of seats sit empty when kids go home to house parties at halftime and don't come back?" Good thing all of the non-student fans are so faithful about coming back after halftime. It sure was crowded in the stands during the second half last Saturday.

If the stadium were to be expanded to about 28k, that would be about 10k more seats. If it was my decision, about 1/4 of those seats would go to the students, which I think would roughly double what they have now. Hopefully MSU has some data. If they showed us that it really only needs to be 1,000 more seats that's ok. I'm just guessing. And/or it could be combined with something like others have mentioned where unsold tickets get released to student, etc. But however they do it, IMO there need to be significantly more seats available to students even though in the short term it doesn't give MSU any additional revenue.

Re: Stadium Expansion News For East Side?
I actually have a couple kids that attend MSU right now. Of the first 4 games, only Mercyhurst had tickets for more than an hour. If you are arguing that this happens occasionally, yes, it does. But we don’t play a low interest team like Mercyhurst very often, or have 3 home games in a row like with that game. The student allocation usually goes fast for 5 of the 6 games - usually all 6 in a normal year. It seems pretty obvious to me that any expansion of the stadium should include an allocation to students. At a minimum, allow unsold tickets to students instead of allowing them to go empty - even release to students the morning of the game.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:19 pmOr you could agree that what I heard and what ClowderUpCataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 10:48 amYou have no idea how those kids got their tickets. Great post! Spot on! I am a die hard Bobcat today, but I admittedly was all about the social experience when I attended MSU. I missed my fair share of kickoffs and game endings during my 4 years at school.catbooster wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 2:35 pm"Really fast" - I don't know how quickly the tickets sell out for every game, but I know that for high demand games they have to be on their computer/phone immediately when the tickets go for sale in order to have a chance. I would be surprised if um jas that many student tickets. It appears to me their student section is far smaller than ours. But thats only based on my eyeballing both and thinking we have way more. But if you were to tell me it's more I would believe you. It only looks to be 2 sections and not as many rows. We have 2 or 3? And that whole bottom section. The student experience in Bozeman at games is vastly better than I would thibk it is in Missoula.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:19 pmOr you could agree that what I heard and what ClowderUpCataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 10:48 amYou have no idea how those kids got their tickets.

Re: Stadium Expansion News For East Side?
Great post! Spot on! I am a die hard Bobcat today, but I admittedly was all about the social experience when I attended MSU. I missed my fair share of kickoffs and game endings during my 4 years at school.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 3:56 pmGreat post! Spot on!
It sure was crowded in the stands during the second half last Saturday.![]()

Used to work with a gal that said she never missed a game in the 4 years she attended, but never made it into the stadium once. (She does make it into the stadium now).
Headed into a game last year on the East side behind a student. Asked why he wasn't going in the student gates. He said he couldn't get a student ticket so he bought an SRO ticket. I ventured that he was probably going to sit in the student section anyway and he confirmed that was the case. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Those are from Google my friend. I have always heard 2500 for Cats. I know they got 3000 donated for playoffs for students and some community members.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 3:51 pmI actually have a couple kids that attend MSU right now. I would be curious to see the actual number of students seeking tickets and the percentage of those getting tickets. I heard it is less than 25% which is embarrassing as an institution. I understand that the system is locking up when student tickets come online for sale because of the heavy demand.

You are quoting some numbers above (not sure of your sources), but do you know how many tickets are being allocated to MSU students today?

Not sure where you found that with google. Google usually provides a specific site that they pulled the information from. I did find that the end zone expansion added 7,200 seats of which 1,100 were allocated to students.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 6:55 pmThose are from Google my friend.
