Also probably jealous as I was hoping the cats would have been the team to send them packing. To be the best you gotta beat the best and it just feels weird that ISU was the ones to do it.

Didn't watch the game, figured someone could describe his benefit. No doubt it is beneficial but passing stays didn't bear it out. At least Old Griz gave a decent answer.hilinegrizfan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 12:39 pmmaybe it's because the answer is obvious. He is our best corner. He is said by many to be the leader of our defense. if the leader of your defense came back would it be beneficial to your team?

I mean the middle of the field was as wide open as ever. SDSU's O line didn't hold up all that well after the first quarter and got pressure on Mason and he couldn't wait for the crossing routes to develop. Still the same weakness IMO that was there before. South Dakotas O-line seems to be pretty decent but then again I don't think Mercer was all that great to begin with. Time will tell.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 2:24 pmDidn't watch the game, figured someone could describe his benefit. No doubt it is beneficial but passing stays didn't bear it out. Re: Other FCS Games 12-6-2025
Getting our top corner back changed everything for the Griz defense. In a 3 3 5 you have to be able to trust your corners, and once he and Lawler were both healthy again the coaches could finally play real man coverage. That allowed Montana to send one more at Mason a lot more often without worrying about getting exposed outside.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 11:40 amI have asked this on a couple spots and not gotten an answer. With the corner back, how did it improve the D. I keep reading how it was a game changer and made such a big difference. Statistically it didn't seem to help the passing yards given up. It did seem like Griz run defense was better. And also Griz O was able to take advantage of SDSU in pass game.hilinegrizfan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 11:22 amIf I were the cats I'd be worried about the griz coming to town. If we play like we did Saturday, we are unbeatable. We left 14 points on the board too. We have our best defensive back returned now. game changer. should be a great game, I hope it happens!
The result was exactly what you would expect. Mason came in with only 2 interceptions all season and the Griz forced 2 more because he was finally under pressure instead of throwing in rhythm. And once SDSU went up 14 to 6 their next six drives produced five punts and the end of the half. They had only 95 yards on 27 plays during that stretch and their run game never got going.
Solo also had his best game as a Griz with 5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack. That is what happens when the coverage does its job and the front can attack instead of sitting back.
Even if the passing yards dont show a huge difference the impact was massive. Getting that corner back let Montana run the aggressive version of the 3 3 5 again and it showed up in all the important areas:
• More pressure on Mason
• More confusion and quicker throws
• More turnovers
• SDSU getting stuck for two full quarters
That is why the game flipped. The defense finally had all the pieces back and could play the style it is built for.

I mean worried in what sense? It’d be a semi final game so in that sense there are 4 teams left and all playing good football. If it’s the griz the cats would be playing a good team playing good football.hilinegrizfan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 11:22 amIf I were the cats I'd be worried about the griz coming to town. I just don’t get this coming from griz fans. That we should be afraid to play the griz. lol. Why on earth would we be afraid to play a team we have smoked in Bozeman for a decade? Why be afraid of a team we already beat in their Mecca of homefield?
Wouldn’t it be safe to say that the cats would also be playing very good football? Couldn’t the Cats presumably get players back from injury? Wouldn’t the Cats also be very tough at home?
This griz idea that they are playing so amazing that the Cats should be afraid of them just reminds me of the stuff I had to listen to from Griz fans in the early 2000’s.

If I were um fans I’d be rooting hard for sfa to beat us. You want a home game vs sfa or a road game at msu? No brainer. Likewise, MSU fans should be rooting for USD.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:05 pmI mean worried in what sense? The Griz biggest problems last game were Ah Yat’s inability to throw downfield, run and stopping the run, not the pass defense. If you can’t move the ball aerially at home, you won’t be able to on the road.
UM got 52 rush yards on one play that should have been a 15-yard facemask penalty. Without that um has 126 yards on 27 carries. Not bad at 4.6. But not 6.4.
MSU averaged about 7 yards per play to 6 for UM. Take out that blown call and it’s 7 to 5.2.
Offensively, um has averaged just 263 ypg at MSU over last three games. They’ve won one road playoff game in school history.

Especially after they said all year SDSU was garbage. But beat them in only game since Cat Griz and they are a totally new team.rfischer94 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:25 pmkwcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 2:24 pmYep, I was hoping to get a direct shot and take care of them.WalkOn79 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 10:10 amYeah that was weird when everybody in Bobcat stadium found out the Bison were going down. Agree with you on the Griz rooting interests for sure. Home game vs SFA is obviously a better path than on the road against the Cats. As far as our rooting interests, I don't see a difference between USD or the Griz. Both will be playing great football and both will be difficult to beat. For selfish reasons I want the griz. Not because I think they will be easier to beat because I don't. Because the idea of a 2nd Brawl, which has NEVER happened, IN Bozeman, for a shot to play in the national championship is just way too much fun.iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:40 pmIf I were um fans I’d be rooting hard for sfa to beat us. Obviously if they came in here and beat us that would be an awful day. Amazing for the griz fanbase, but just awful for ours. Still worth that risk to me to get to see a 2nd Cat/griz in a month. And if we win it just doesn't get better than that.

USD has won 8 of 9 and has been playing good defense in that stretch aside from SIU game which went five overtime’s.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 11:32 amAgree with you on the Griz rooting interests for sure. Yep, they're playing great football for sure. As are the other 7 teams I suspect. I'm just saying griz fans should obviously want SFA to win because then they get another home game if they also win. Cat fans don't have that scenario so it's just kinda who do you want to see. My own personal opinion is I want the griz on the 20th. But obviously I just want to win and don't care who we play.iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 12:43 pmUSD has won 8 of 9 and has been playing good defense in that stretch aside from SIU game which went five overtime’s.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 11:32 amAgree with you on the Griz rooting interests for sure.
