Unless something drastic came up in the last few days, this is an unprofessional move that hurt himself, his family, and Montana State University.

Dude clearly doesn't have enough confidence to know what he really wanted and let himself go too far down a path he apparently never wanted to be on in the first place.

But as others have said, glad he is gone now before he could've done more damage to this university by not giving it his best.

Not too far off having a wife, but joining Tinder and looking for some action, meeting at the hotel, getting to 2nd base and then running back home.

Am I the only one here thinking it's totally the wife?? The other things in his life have all been accounted for and he knew all the factors in his (and his family's) life well before applying, let alone accepting the position. I think they came to town and it wasn't what his wife was expecting. They went home, she threw a giant hissy and put her foot down. Just a theory. The only one that really makes much sense to me. Effin women.

Yeah I kind of thought about the wife angle after he accepted. I knew she had a very good position at Utah within the athletic department. Again, just more things that they should have talked about prior to him applying.

This feels like a reasonable scenario. Moving a family to a new home is a hard process for everyone, and I could see him making the decision and being great with it, and the wife maybe being in a "Well, okay ..." mode, but then being overcome with emotion once the move starts to become reality and having a bit of a freak out over the whole thing. The same could happen with a husband so I'm not trying to play off a female stereotype, but it seems like the best explanation I can come up with for a change of heart like this.

If it was a calculated professional decision or anything other than a family-related move, this is really a career limiting move (and it may be in any event).

This clearly looks like a situation I had once on a MUCH smaller scale. My buddy and I drinking a few brewskis on the deck and realized that the grill would fit in a much nicer spot if it didn't have the shelf on one side. A trip to the garage and a little work with the sawzall as voila, it fit in the new spot. Wife walks out and sees the beer in one hand, the sawzall in the other and my buddy with the beer in one hand and shelf in the other. Looked at us and the grill and made one comment that I can hear Brennan's wife saying last week. "THIS is one of the things we should have talked about first."

I thought right away this was a case of not having the wife on board. She probably wanted to support him, but when it came down to the nut cuttin' she got cold feet. Then the kids started crying. Then he feels like s---.... Next, down the slippery slope we go.
