@HookedOnGriz

How did Bobby “despise” the portal when it was how he was was filling his roster? Egris, including you, were making fun of MSU for not having portal players as Bobby was signing any FBS bench player with a pulse.

If there is one coach who despised this willy-nilly transfer portal, it was Coach Hauck. I am assuming that it had a big impact on this decision. He absolutely despised it.

Personal opinion here, but just cuz BH HAD to go to that particular well over and over due to a failure to recruit/develop/retain quality high school recruits, doesn't mean he particularly liked that system. If he had his druthers, I'm sure he'd like to do what we have done so well: recruit Montana, recruit quality out of state, and win a natty. He wasn't able to do it. Hence the portal, and extreme frustration.

The scriptwriters for this season need a raise.

Going with a lame duck coach for a year is certainly an interesting decision, especially when it comes to recruiting. Granted, one doesn't know how long Vigen will be around either, but it's a different scenario.

I'm oddly happy for Bobby.

He seems like a pretty decent guy when he's not being interviewed, and he clearly wasn't happy coaching anymore. While he was a complete and total prick of a coach, he helped make the rivalry what it is today. In fact, we probably owe some of our success to him being such an ass.

I know some were hoping for the media guys to ask some hard questions, but what's the point really? Bobby seemed very relaxed, at peace, though the fact that he told Haslam 14 hours ago hits hard. Sure, I would have loved someone to ask, "You've had a losing record against the Cats in your second stint, and with all they are retaining from last year's team, it's unlikely you'll beat them in their house in November. How much did that play a role in your decision to retire?" But no one was going to do that.

I'm sure that the current college football scene is frustrating but it was pretty disingenuous for him to blame that when he's chosen to live in the portal to create his teams. I'm also sure it just wasn't fun anymore when he couldn't beat his rival, watched them win the Natty, and probably had high dollar boosters calling and emailing him daily.

The fact is if Vigen hadn't won Cat-Griz in Missoula, and hadn't won the Natty his life wouldn't have been very fun either.

Losing BH might be the best thing for this rivalry and maybe for griz football if this BK guy is a nice human and a decent coach, as BH indicated. I still hope the Cats curb stomp them every year, but hopefully the toxicity mellows out some with a new leader.
He had a losing record overall in all his games against the Cats. 7-8.
Oh, yes, thanks for the correction.

Hard disagree from personal experience and multiple examples of him just being an arrogant prick. Zero Titles Bobby I will think next time I have the displeasure of seeing him. He had the opportunity to be graceful to me and family years ago during his first stint and never changed.

Rest of the Hauck family are all great people. Not sure what happened to Bob other than he wasn’t at Tim’s level and regretted it with a chip on his shoulder.

Tough day for Bobcat Nation. Losing Howe and having Bobby retire stinks. UM needed a reset and they’ve got that with a new president and new coach.

Yes he did, and that's not necessarily a good thing. In some regards, at least.

I actually buy that. My read on Hauck is that he used the portal so much because he didn't have a choice. And he didn't have a choice because he isn't a good high school recruiter. That didn't matter during 1.0 because their program owned the state. But that wasn't true during 2.0.

Listen to his 30 minute speech at the coaches convention and get back to me. Two things can be true…you can hate the portal, agents, and what college football has become and at the same time use whatever that structure is to the best of your ability to create a good football team. If you don’t get that, no one can help you.

Makes you wonder if something bigger is going on at um, with both the prez and hauck retiring pretty close together. Or it could just be coincidence.

Maybe they will bring on Ruby Hack (Robbie Hauck) to coach somewhere on the grissly staff, and eventually take over the HC job, so he can add on to his tackle total....

From checking Egriz and other sources it seems Kennedy only has a 1 year Contract and will have to prove himself to keep the job. With how insane the coaching carousel was this past season at the FBS and FCS levels this seems like the best option they had, especially this late into the offseason. Would potentially give them plenty of time to find a new HC if this guy (interim in all but name) fails to perform.

He failed and quit and now bemoans the portal rules he tried to buy players through for a title. Didn’t work. Alienated most of the HS coaches in the state while doing so. So much for RTD.

Good news for you is that KashG might actually see the field next year after being benched the last two seasons.

I somewhat called it in that it’s an exhausting way as a staff to run a program as you’re alienating your core squad while bringing in dozens of guys who failed at FBS or excelled at bad FCS teams.
