Most Painful Cat Griz Moments
I got to thinking about this, there are several painful moments from the Cat fan's perspective through the years. Obviously "The Streak" being the biggest for me, including a couple specific memories. The game in Bozeman where we had it won and gave it back... was the absolute worst, rock bottom for me. Then later in streak, I was at a game on Missoula where they pulled away at the end and when the game became out of reach for the Cats, the crowd was of course going crazy, and the announcer gets on and says... "If we've told you ONCE, we've told you FOURTEEN TIMES!!!....
or something like that, completely kicking the entire Bobcat Nation when we're down.
So, here we are. Let's think about the pain Griz Nation has not had to endure recently. Obviously Lulay and Adams beating them in their house to end the streak HAD to be painful. If they didn't know then that things were going be different moving forward, they sure as hell understand that now. Then there were several losses that had to be painful for them, but obviously the Miracle in Missoula had to be the worst. Maybe worse than the Cat loss in Bozeman that I mentioned. Then, Cats dominating and rushing all over them in their house, completing one pass. Then the absolute beat downs in Bozeman. GAME DAY coming to Bozeman for one of those beatdowns. Then of course this season rolls around. They get beat by us in Missoula fighting for the #2 seed. Then they earn the right to come to Bozeman for the redemption game, where for some strange reason that fan base thought they'd be able to come into our house and win? NOPE. Beat down... including a couple plays that will never be forgotten. Then lastly, they got to sit back and watch the CATS win it all, in the highest attended FCS game and the best FCS Championship game in history. It has to be like a bad nightmare for them, like the ones where it keeps getting worse and you can't wake up.

97 for me. Sitting in the stands as a 5th grader thinking we just broke the streak, and then the kick out of bounds and the long throw, to set up the griz game winning kick. Forever burned in my brain, and I can remember that day like it was yesterday.catatac wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:02 pmI got to thinking about this, there are several painful moments from the Cat fan's perspective through the years. You and me both. My dad and I were in the stands right next to the grassy knoll. I think it was the first time I've ever seen my dad cry... lol.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:12 pm97 for me. It was awful. The other awful one was 2011. Ranked #1 and getting absolutely raced at home.catatac wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:28 pmYou and me both. Re: Most Painful Cat Griz Moments
The losses are all bad. Only two I’d consider painful. 1997 and 2011. 2021 and 2023 sucked to a lesser extent. Most of their wins came during the streak against mostly mediocre Cat teams.
I’d much rather be a Bobcat than a Grizzly in this category.
Both games this year.
The absolute beatdowns in 19, 22 and 24.
The 2018 game Miracle in Missoula.
2016 when we only had three wins and won there.
The 2010 win for the title to knock them out of the playoffs for the first time in 18 years with an interception in the end zone by Rider.
Thats 8 in the last 15 years compared to just twice over nearly 30 years. Thanks for bringing this up. I thought it was kind of a Debbie Downer thing when I read the title.

Another thing comes to mind when I consider the pain the Griz had to endure. How about all the lobbying of ESPN they did to get them to come to Missoula for College Game Day? And then in 2022, ESPN chooses to broadcast from Bozeman!

As a kid in 1997, that is also the answer. My dad's reaction will forever be seared into my brain.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Very embarrassing as a Cat fan.. but then that’s how Ash prepared the team..GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:42 pmIt was awful. The other awful one was 2011. If we are talking painful in terms of next morning, hangovers, the Super Brawl this year is right up there at the top for me.

In 2024 I was 57 years old and ventured over to see what www.egriz.com contained. Still have a bad taste in my mouth. Extremely painful. Lesson learned.
All other moments were erased by biotch-slapping them in the semis and winning the Natty.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to revisit their most painful losses.
But it does seem like a good time to cleanse your soul now that the demons have been exorcised.
Has me wondering if a team has ever beaten its rival twice (once on the road and once at home/playoffs) and then went on to win the national title? Indiana beat Oregon twice and won the title, but they aren't (they're not) rivals.
SDSU beat NDSU in the regular season and then again in the title game.

Re: Most Painful Cat Griz Moments
What year was it just extremely cold during Cat/Griz and we just got stomped? Within the last 10-15 years. I just remember standing there in that frigid air losing all feeling in my toes while my ex hid in the women's bathroom. Just a horrible experience.
My most painful moment was actually against EWU, in 2004 I think, when we lost in overtime after blowing a lead. I've never felt the stadium as quiet as when that last pass from Lulay hit the turf.

Agree with most that 1997 and 2011 were the worst.
The Jake Bleskin game in Missoula was another one that was tough to watch.
