Do we need a better one to just not do it when we’re not playing the Griz? That seems like lazy thinking to me.tetoncat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 7:27 pmCome up with a better one. Nope, that's why you just modify it to say "Beat the Lakers, Go Cats Go!". More respectful... and you bust out the real deal ESGGCG, loud and proud, only at Cat Griz. I doubt you could ever get the students on board but that's my vision at least. lolRKMCMT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 6:02 pmI'd much rather leave the Griz in it than try to adapt for every team.
Telling visiting Mercyhurst to eat sh*t seems way more low rent than a long-standing rivalry chant.
Honestly we want those teams to go out thinking Bozeman was the coolest place they ever played. That rep is recruiting gold.

Oh, and FYI when the game got out of hand in Washington Griz in 2023 and the PA guy played Mony Mony (That was painful)... pretty sure that Griz crowd was chanting ESBC GGG. That's the way it goes.

I’m great with this tbh! If you want to talk smack, be prepared when they do it back.
It’s doing the chant at every freaking game and event that gets old.

I'd like to think we could do better, but I don't see it happening. From where I sit during the season, the ESG part seems to come from the endzone. I assume that it's mainly students. What are your suggestions for removing it from the fight song?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 7:24 pmI’m the minority here, but I’m fine with it for Cat-Griz. And you’re not wrong but it doesn’t matter. It’s not going away. It’s not worth talking about. It’s not supposed to be anything other than fun for Cat fans, and annoying for griz fans. I heard Mony Mony over a hundred times last week at 15 different bars. The only constant was the energy was awesome, the bars were rocking, and the people were having a blast. The rest doesn’t matter. It’s sports and no one is getting hurt.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 7:24 pmI’m the minority here, but I’m fine with it for Cat-Griz. I honestly don't think its much more than the student section that does it at any other games but Cat/gris during the fight song.
I was just listening to an interview Dane Steel gave to his hometown radio station and the guy asks him how the rivalry compares to Sheridan/ Gillette and in his answer he says one of the first things he thought after we won was, "I hope the griz players are watching". Its a rivalry. Its awesome.

I love everything about this chant. For all of you who don't recall, remember or are aware of Bobby Hauck's comment to everyone and anyone who would listen: "Cats don't deserve to be called MONTANA State and therefore he and his team (s) will refer to us as "State"
THIS IS OUR WHY. IT WILL NEVER GO AWAY.
Looking forward to hearing it sung and shouted from the rooftops as it really has a whole new meaning now.
I know it will be played at my daughter's wedding (someday) and she happens to be Sonny Holland's Granddaughter.

If Sonny Holland's daughter wants it played at her daughter's wedding then I don't know how you get a better stamp of approval than that!

To put a finer point on it, I often see the ESG GCG chant as our battle cry.
Go CATS!!
It doesn't matter if you think gris football is a dumpster fire or not. We are competing with them for resources within the state ever day of the year. If you think that we are so good now that we don't have to keep competing with them and and keep getting better then you don't know history. It wasn't that long ago that they were the dominate program in the state and it was hard to see how MSU would ever catch up. ESG GCG is just a way to remind us to never quite, keep fighting for in state dominance every day of the year.

We were discussing this same topic down in Nashville. We came to the ultimate conclusion that ESG GCG will likely never go away until Bobby Hack retires or gets canned. There's just too much hate for that clown, right or wrong. The Mony Mony song itself is immortalized in Bobcat lore for all time though.

I agree with Rep. Downing. We should start a campaign to get Trump to have the team at the White House. That would be great!

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
They don't. Period. I rarely think about the GrisLLies outside of that one week of the year. Other than they are one of our biggest roadblocks to the conference championship and thinking about conference standings. It's important we understand their programs, recruiting, NIL, on a general level to know if/how/when we are winning the battles.
I also think that the ESG chant means nothing. It's a phenomena that has an inverse relationship to how much people want to gripe about it. Meaning the kids like to say it. They also like that it is controversial. They like to think it offends and especially offends Gris fans. It's fine if you don't get it. But I also believe that it's more correct to say you don't get it than you "don't like it" or it is "low class". I personally don't say it outside of Cat/Gris week. AND... it was so much fun to hear bands in Nashville trying to woo Bobcat customers into their shops with Mony Mony. It's OK to have fun with it.

The Streak was absolutely brutal to experience and we were both in school for it. It is what it is. They dominated MSU for 16 years and most of the games weren’t close.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:44 amThe Streak will do that to us. That was a long, long time. And old habits die hard.
To put a finer point on it, I often see the ESG GCG chant as our battle cry. And while it does mention our loathsome rivals, it's become bigger than that.
Do I recognize the irony when we chanted it in Nashville? Absolutely. Did I happily join in? Every time.

I don’t do it except when we play the gris.
Most of the stadium doesn’t.
Most of the students do. It’s the most heated rivalry in College Football. It’s just a chant. I’ve heard worse in PG-13 movies. It’s just not that big of a deal.

Re: Why allow the gris to reside inside our heads?
I don't understand why you have to say "Grizzlies" when playing other teams. It can still be the "battle cry" without saying the name of a team you aren't playing. "Redbirds" and "grizzlies" are literally the exact same syllables. Why not say, "eat $#!t REDBIRDS! Go Cats Go!"? In fact, only 3 of our 16 opponents don't work nicely as a 2 syllable reference: San Diego Toreros and NAU/SFA, both being Lumberjacks.Bobcat Sig wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:44 amThe Streak will do that to us.
