Someone brought it up in another thread, thought it deserved it's own. MSU was on the losing end of this exact same situation - 35-34 loss in OT on a blocked XP - in the 2023 season. This season, MSU was on the winning side. Eerily similar situation... The ecstacy of victory and the agony of defeat, magnified because this was for all the marbles.
I do feel bad for ISU's placekicking unit...

We lost to NDSU on a blocked field goal, we lost last year’s Natty from a slow start, and we lost to SDSU in double overtime on a 4th and 1 stop. Ever since the SDSU loss and with the win tonight, this season has been a collective of winning the same scenario that has led to losses for the Cats in the past. Definitely a full circle moment to get to the summit and tonight’s game, minus a 4th and 1, presented all the past lessons that needed to be learned. It was a literal pass or fail test, and the team passed! No matter who graduates, portals out, stays or portals in for the 2026 season, it seems that a weight has been lifted for this team to tackle any challenge with confidence.

I recall hearing Vigen say in an interview a few weeks back that the team came together after that SDSU loss and basically said "this WON'T happen again". The hard lesson in resiliency this team learned in week two is what carried them through that game last night. It's the reason why you schedule games against the best teams in the FCS instead of D2 schools.SparkCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 12:27 amWe lost to NDSU on a blocked field goal, we lost last year’s Natty from a slow start, and we lost to SDSU in double overtime on a 4th and 1 stop. They re-claimed the 4th and 1 against SDSU in the first UM game. Same play, same Julius, different result. Cancelled each losing scenario during championship play (Big Sky championship or National championship). Remarkable — sort of a football mind-Jedi thing.
