Interesting note on the Gris relevancy was brought up by Andrew Schmidt and Colter in his podcast. Since 2010, the Cats have won 6 Big Sky titles and will be appearing in 3 National championship games. The Gris have 1 Big Sky title in that same span. Southern Utah, Sacramento State and Weber State have EACH won more Big Sky conference championships than the Gris during that span.
I believe he said Portland State has the same number of BSC championships as the Pandas.
Portland State has never won a BSC football title
You're probably thinking of Cal Poly
Since 2009 (17 Years, includes co-championships)
MSU - 6
EWU - 6
Weber - 4
SAC - 3
SUU - 2
CP - 1
UND - 1 Gris - 1

The Griz won the BSC in 2009 and 2023. There have been 16 seasons since 2009. Did you mean since 2010? If so, that’s 15 seasons. I don’t think 2020 had a BSC champion, did it?
MSU - 17 team National Champions (most recent 2025); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023). toMStUber

I think Weber won the spring season

I meant starting in 2020 and yes, that counts the "spring" champions.

Now that I look at it, how odd was it that PSU got a home game in the playoffs (vs UNI) and SUU had to travel to SHST.
Strange times.
Holy crap you aren't kidding. The 2 best teams in the Big Sky were SUU and PSU . I think I remember that PSU/MSU game. Was that the year they had that NFL TE? This is what I found on the BSC website.
PORTLAND STATE 59, MONTANA STATE 42- Portland State running back David Jones rushed for a career-high 285 yards and three touchdowns, as the Vikings earned a home victory over nationally-ranked Montana State.
Montana State quarterback Dakota Prukop scored 81 seconds into the game, and then Portland State responded with a 79-yard touchdown run by Jones to tie the score at 7-7 with 13:21 to go in the first quarter.
While the two teams were tied at 14-14 going into the second quarter, Portland State went on a 21-7 run in the second quarter. Vikings quarterback Alex Kuresa threw a touchdown, and then rushed for a touchdown to give Portland State a 35-21 halftime lead.
Portland State finished with 682 yards, and Montana State finished with 440 yards.
Montana State quarterback Dakota Prukop finished with three rushing touchdowns.
682 yards given up on defense. Strange times indeed.

That's the one I referenced in another thread. Depressing game to be at. They had eght possessions, eight TD's.
Listened to a bit of Sammy Akem and Keenan today. It was kinda entertaining as I think Sammy, though being a griz player, has really balanced perspectives, and is willing to call a spade a spade. Keenan is an unapologetic griz homer, and admits it, but even he had to admit there are some real problems in griz land. The one part I thought was interesting was when they were talking about needing younger coaches. Robbie's name was mentioned but quickly dismissed. If you're interested look it up on You Tube.

The 2015 bracket was a mess... Colgate beat JMU... an unseeded SHST made the semis... After beating SDSU the Gris got boat raced by #3 NDSU...#2 Illinois St lost to #7 Richmond.

Sammy is absolutely the best FCS watch out there. He absolutely loves football, and while being a griz he is unbiased in the way he sees it. I have been watching him all year and he just gets better and better. Really its the only podcast that I look forward to.
Keenan adds the Griz player/fan perspective. Its all good stuff though.

It was probably that season but I remember getting into a debate about what was worse to watch, and inept offense or an inept defense. I think we decided that it was offense but that year made the debate closer than it should have been. Thats tough to watch.

Some how Bruce Barnum parlayed that season into 10 more years as the head man at PSU.
Wonder if we'll see him on Bobbi's staff next year.

That game was brutal. The wife and I moved to Portland that summer. A bunch of Montana friends came out for the game. Watching that game was a total let down, especially with it being in the Timbers stadium, which was nearly all Cat fans. Bum deal, but we sure had a blast out in Portland that night.
griz fans; keeping it classy and gracious in winning since ... well, never.

I was at that game. It was really disheartening. The cats just couldn't get a stop. The defense was like going against a stiff breeze.

I was living in Portland and at that game and then went to Cat-Gris in Bozeman for that blowout. I knew Ash was done just from the reaction of some QB Club boosters that I’ve tailgated with since the 1990s.
Great flame wars on this board back then about how the offense scored too fast and that’s why the defense was so bad. Nope, that was all Jamie Marshall and his scheme that created the most open spaces of any defense I’ve watched on a consistent basis. Regularly 10-15 yards of open space that seemed almost impossible to have as a result in any defensive system.

Wasn't Marshall around though when we had really good defenses? If we could have paired the 2010-11 defenses with the 2015 offense, we probably would have been in pretty good shape.
