Chris Long makes plays
I know that Chris Long doesn’t have the stats that most of us probably expected, but wow he has made some big catches.
In both of the Cat-gris games, he made some big possession catches. A couple of his catches, you don’t see many guys in the FCS make. I just wanted to give a shout out to him for his mental and physical toughness in big moments this year!

He’s a good player. Unfortunately his biggest ability is Lamson’s worst, so it just hasn’t worked out like many had hoped. They’ve both adjusted well to what they can do throughout the season.

Re: Chris Long makes plays
He has 15 catches for 184 yards and has scored twice in the last eight games after just eight catches for 99 yards and no scores over the first seven games to start the season.
The NAU game was so uncharacteristic for him because he can catch the ball. Lamson isn't afraid to fire a ball to him when he's covered. The adjustment he made on the pass where Lamson's arm was hit on the first drive of the 2.0 was very good. Not a tough ball to handle but staying with it was, because he had to be thinking he was going to get hit hard considering the amount of hang time on that ball.

Lamson doesn't have a great deep ball but his toss to Dowler on "the play" was money. I think that was more of a medium ball though.

He threw a pass to Ryan King vs UM 2.0 that went about 50 yards in the air. Kings two catches vs UNC were on passes that went about 55 and 50 yards in the air. Those are incredibly long, but I don't recall him attempting to throw a pass further than those.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 12:45 pmLamson doesn't have a great deep ball but his toss to Dowler on "the play" was money. His pass to King against UM is maybe the only deep ball this season he hasn't underthrown. He just doesn't seem to have a consistently good deep ball. Which is fine, if he did, he wouldn't be here, and he's been money in the intermediate zones.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 12:55 pmHe threw a pass to Ryan King vs UM 2.0 that went about 50 yards in the air. That was supposed to say, "Those AREN'T incredibly long,..." I used to be able to throw a football 55 yards and had a friend that could throw it 80 yards. Neither one of us played football.
Fran Tarkenton, not known for having a strong arm, said something after throwing a 54-yard TD pass to John Gilliam to the effect of 'however far that was, that's as far as I can throw it.' Gilliam caught the ball around the 5-yard line as I recall. Tarkenton probably threw from around his own 40, which is about 55 yards in the air. He held every major career passing record (completions, yards, TDs) for longer than any QB in NFL history.
The longer you try to throw a pass, the less chance it's going to be caught. Very low percentage play, but the word has always been that teams want to stretch the defense in order to loosen them up. It's true but very few teams have had players capable of doing it on a consistent basis.

Anyway, I just always think about how fun Moss's rookie season was. We may never see that again but we were literally able to just drop back and throw as far as we possible could. If you ever question just how great Randy Moss was, ask yourself why you don't see NFL teams trying to bomb it 70+ yards down the field about 5 times a game. Guy was incredible.
Anyways, just a stroll down memory lane. Carry on.
