Choate 2.0

Post by GoCats18 » Sat Nov 08, 2025 8:16 pm

If Vigen leaves after this season and Nevada parts ways with Choate, is there any chance he does like Hauck and comes back as Head Coach?

I don't think anyone in Bobcat Nation is eager to take a step back from the Vigen era.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

I can think of a ton of names I’d be more interested in than Jeff Choate. He’s currently losing 41-0 at the half versus 4-4 Utah St. JC was a good fit when he was hired but I’m good, thanks but no thanks to round 2.

Prediction: Choate resigned in the next 90 days, takes an FBS assistant job...and lies in the weeds until the Idaho job comes open. Then he and Ed Lamb battle it out for the next head coach of the Vandals.

Ed Lamb is one of the names I would be very high on. Maybe at the top.

Count me in the odd man out here. But I would welcome Chaote back.

If Vigen leaves, it should be Howe or Daly.

Or Owens. But yes to this three.

I'd also be a supporter of Ed Lamb, the guy won Big Sky titles with SUU and UNC has improved immensely under him, they should have an FBS win this season if the refs didn't steal it from them.

And he’s building UNC by recruiting high school players, not through the portal. Imagine if he could coach somewhere where he’s not at a recruiting, facilities, fan support disadvantage against the teams he’s playing.

Choate was exactly what MSU needed following Ash. He played a huge role in building up MSU into what we are today, and I don’t want to downplay that at all. He made so much happen off the field that impacted the on the field play. With that being said, with where we are now, I wouldn’t take him back. We can do better.

Is Kane out of the convo now bc he is a Choate guy with a losing record at a helpless school? He would be high on my list.

Whoever follows Vigen will be so critical to maintain the level of success. The budget and facilities are absolutely there to maintain the level of dominance we have had. To be honest, we could take a step back, as this season has shown, and still beat pretty much everyone in the Big Sky regularly.

My preference would be to hire within to keep the culture going if we think Howe or Daly are capable of sustaining a similar performance.

I guess I don’t see why Kane would have the leg up on Daly.

I’m a little petty, but Kane had a chance and didn’t want it. I’ve moved on.

Don't you think Vigen will move on at some time. If he gets a five year $1 million contract?

I'd put the chances somewhere on the scale between "no" and "hell no". I think Choate would be more interested in going back to a FBS assistant job and I definitely think that Leon has a deeper candidate pool in mind than relying on former coaches (that he didn't hire) returning.
