Press conference

(Usually, Montana State shoots these for me but I think the film guys are in Boulder for hoops, so this is the zoom. Sound is good, video is a big grainy, sorry!)

Good discussion on the MSU DBs by Colter and Brooks.

MSU has only allowed 51 points in the last 7 games (7.3/game). Hasn't been done since 1964.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Cats will be wearing special uniforms for this Saturday's game in honor of the military appreciation game.

Is he always that bad of an interview? It felt like he wanted to be anywhere else. He had no enthusiasm.

When I asked him about what he learned from Jay Hill, and he said:

"Just attention to detail,” WSU defensive coordinator Joe Dale, who worked with Hill from 2018-2022, said of the qualities he passed on. “Everything matters. The little things become big things if you don’t focus on them. Just how to prepare the right way week in and week out regardless of the opponent. You earn the right to be proud and confident and perform well with your work throughout the week. Those are a few of the things I’ve carried over along the way.

“It’s different now. I have the voice in that defensive staff room. Not having that defensive presence and having a more offensive minded coach. It gives us our freedom and lets us do our thing. Let’s us put together a great game plan to go out and execute. Just not having that constant voice and having that defensive mind in coach Hill, there is the biggest difference.”

I thought that pretty much summed it up...

If he's the voice in the room, I hope he shows more energy than in your interview. I also can see why he didn't get the head coach job the way he comes across.

He wasn't the candidate or the DC. Grant Duft, who's now Cody Hawkins' DC at Idaho State, was the heir apparent. He was Hill's right-hand man for 9 years. Dale coached the secondary, which was always elite to best in the country good during Hill's time, including having one of the only Defensive MVP DBs in league history in Taron Johnson. Weber should've hired Duft. Mental is the strangest hire, not close, in the history of the conference and it's directly reflected by the fact that while not the worst team in the conference, Weber is the team that lacks the most identity and is the most irrelevant in the conference.
