Most definitely MSU will be favored, unless Vigen leaves and takes half the roster with him before the game is played.

I know he wouldn't go to Nevada. But if, say, Colorado State comes calling do you think he'd immediately turn them down?

Exactly. Even if half the team followed him somewhere big, the Cats will be favored in Reno.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:36 pmI know he wouldn't go to Nevada. But if, say, Colorado State comes calling do you think he'd immediately turn them down?

Hes not going to Colorado State IMO.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:36 pmI know he wouldn't go to Nevada. But if, say, Colorado State comes calling do you think he'd immediately turn them down?
The interesting thing is going to be all the vacancies at the top of the FBS. Vacancies at UCLA, LSU, Penn State, Florida, and probably a bunch I'm not thinking of.
Vigens not going to be in discussion for any of those jobs, but those teams are going to hire coaches from other good programs. Vigen could find himself in the discussion for a really good OC job in one of those secondary vacancies.

Re: MSU at the Choate Pack
I think Nevada will give Choate at least one more season since they're already paying the previous coach's buyout through December of 2026. Choate vs Vigen is definitely the most likely outcome but we'd be foolish to not at least accept the realistic possibility that Vigen moves on given how much success he has had at MSU.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:58 pmWhich coaching matchup is most likely?

I would be beyond shocked if Vigen left for an OC job.onceacat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:47 pmHes not going to Colorado State IMO.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:36 pmI know he wouldn't go to Nevada. But if, say, Colorado State comes calling do you think he'd immediately turn them down?

Same. He seems absolutely perfectly suited for the "CEO" type role a great head coach needs to be able to fill.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:14 pmI would be beyond shocked if Vigen left for an OC job.onceacat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:47 pmHes not going to Colorado State IMO.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 5:36 pmI know he wouldn't go to Nevada. I disagree, he may be the CEO type but it's all about the money.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:28 pmSame. Re: MSU at the Choate Pack
Perhaps, although he'd also need to attract an offer from a power conference school to significantly increase his salary from what he's making now. Vigen hasn't been an OC since 2020 and only ever worked under one head coach in Craig Bohl. Where's the offer coming from for an OC job? Makes way more sense to me that a MWC/Pac 12 would target him as a head coach.seataccat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:37 pmI disagree, he may be the CEO type but it's all about the money.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:28 pmSame. Yes for sure. I think he's going to take a mountain west head coaching job or a coordinator in the P4 within two years. He has to know that toiling around MSU for too many years is more hurtful than helpfulMSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:58 pmPerhaps, although he'd also need to attract an offer from a power conference school to significantly increase his salary from what he's making now. Re: MSU at the Choate Pack
Not for everyone. some people stay in MT their whole career or near hometowns when they could have moved to jump the corporate ladder to make more. It's not like Vigen isn't making a good salary. It is possible he jumps up, doubles salary and is looking for work in 3 years also.seataccat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:37 pmI disagree, he may be the CEO type but it's all about the money.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 6:28 pmSame. A Power 4 OC is likely to pay a lot better than the offers he would get from a G6 team (Maybe not a legacy P4 like WSU or OSU...not totally sure about that)tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 02, 2025 11:56 amNot for everyone. some people stay in MT their whole career or near hometowns when they could have moved to jump the corporate ladder to make more. Jason Beck makes $1.35 to be the OC at Utah. Jay Hill is over a mill at BYU. And those are both teams that will be in the conversation year in and year out for the playoffs.
What G5 school HC can compare? Boise State? UNLV? He might get a somewhat bigger payout, but all those guys are getting fired in a few years when they don't turn around the program. Play in half empty stadiums...compete with MSU and the DSUs for talent? Lose a lot of games?
Call me crazy, but a slightly lower payday to have a chance to win an NC as a co-ordinator is worth a lot more than a soul crushing job at an MWC school. Can anyone possibly think that Choate made good decisions when the Cats beat UNR by 2 scores next September?
