Vigen Oregon State rumors.
I’m hearing from a huge Oregon State Booster that OSU just fired their head coach and Vigen is a possible top candidate.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
Vigen's name is going to come up every single time there's an opening in the western US aside from the likes of Oregon or USC that wouldn't hire an FCS coach. Like with Danny Sprinkle it's probably a matter of when he decides to move on than a matter of if it will happen. MSU has the fan support and facilities to attract a very strong candidate pool if and when they need one, so this is not something I intend to worry about after the bye week is over and we've got 2+ more months of football left to play.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
Would Vigen leave this team mid season? Would osu be willing to wait until msu is out of the playoffs?
I dont see any of these things being true, but college football is the wild west where anything can happen.
Also, maybe most importantly, is OSU a good job where a good coach can be successful? Youre in the shadow of oregon. Do they have a NIL treasure chest?
That said, they may be able to offer enough money where none of that matters.

Re: Vigen Oregon State rumors.
They won't hire until at least the regular season is over, it'll be an interim guy until then. I think any team can wait for a coach now given the later portal opening, if they're sure he's the guy.wbtfg wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 5:50 pmWould Vigen leave this team mid season? This is a dead end job. I feel sorry for both ORegon State and Washington State. They got screwed.
It's an impossible situation. He might make more money but he would be miserable during the process. Losing
and small disinterested crowds are not a fun place to be. Ask Bobby Hauck

I will take losing a head coach every couple years and being a Championship contender than sitting in our stadium with 2000 other Bobcats fans watching hairy back man walk around getting everyone fired up. Well, on second thought, I do kind of miss hairy back man.
Punters are people too!!

Might as well pass on jobs at former PAC-12 schools since MSU would likely join OSU when they move up…..

I think yer joking…. But honestly I think there is something to this.
There is a very real chance that MSU moves up sometime these next couple years to FBS. That should definitely weigh into any potential decision that vigen makes when considering another job offer.

I don't know about that. Jonathan Smith was making $2.5m/year before he got hired away by Michigan State. He got the Beavs up into the top 25 a couple times.aucat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 6:19 pmThis is a dead end job. I feel sorry for both ORegon State and Washington State. They got screwed.

They sell out the stadium consistently and put as many fans in the seats as most of the teams in the ACC.
The Beavs should be competitive for the conference championship every year and the top G5 (G6?) team will get a playoff outbid.
A couple years ago this would have been a pretty mediocre P5 job, now its probably the best G6 job.
$2.5mill and a high likelihood of regular playoff appearances?
Thats gonna be a lot more tempting than Booby at UNLV or Jeff Choate at Nevada.

What makes you think that? If MSU (and UM) didn't get an invite to join the Mountain West or Pac Whatever after last season, its hard to imagine that an invite is ever coming.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 8:29 pm

We aren't going to do this every time a job comes open on this side of the country, are we? He's going to be on every short list.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

It's a football discussion board. If theres a chance someone is gonna poach the coach, that seems worthy of discussion.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 9:27 pmWe aren't going to do this every time a job comes open on this side of the country, are we? He's going to be on every short list.

Agree! Oregon State going forward may be the best non power 4 jobs in the West! Boise Staters may argue that but it is not even close how much better it is than Nevada or New Mexico. Better conference ,better money, better stadium, better support. Now do I think Vigen gets it or takes it, no.onceacat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 8:53 pmI don't know about that. It's a little weird to say this: But a coach like Vigen can take his time. Hes got goals at MSU...win the chipper, see his kids through school, etc. When hes ready, he will have his choice of multiple Top G6/Bottom P4 programs.Cats and Dogs wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 9:48 pmAgree! Hes got a very comfortable life making bank in Bozeman. At some point, he will trade that in for a $1-2m yearly payout somewhere better.
I guess we will see if Oregon State fits the bill. It might.
