Not twice in any three games. Twice in the first three of the season. lol

I hope everyone has been able to watch this show. It’s great and they do a great job of explaining things and putting it into a layman’s terms.

How busy is Rider's life? Half the time he's doing a video call WHILE DRIVING. Another 25% of the time he's just sitting in his car.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

It's interesting, in this week's Big Sky Breakdown. Colter and Brooks criticize the scheduling of Mercyhurst saying they wish Msu would schedule a Southland team.
Well... the whole Mercyhurst thing came about because SFAustin canceled the game at MSU with only 3 months notice... So MSU had to scramble just to get anybody to travel to Bozeman for a game, and found Mercyhurst. Not really the fault of MSU, they did have a higher quality team scheduled.

After learning about the team against Oregon and SDSU a couple games to right the ship and fix issues is perfect. At least no D2 game.

Did they criticize um for scheduling a D2 CWU team that was thrashed by San Diego in ‘24?

This is going to shock you but it somehow did not come up. They did do a deep dive into the Mercyhurst wikipedia page though, so there's that.

They say plenty of good things about MSU. If you listen to Ridin’ with Rider or all the other stuff except the Mercyhurst part there’s tons of good things said about MSU. Colter has a deep respect for MSU’s sports programs.

I think the reason he’s critical of Mercyhurst is because they were so incredibly bad last year. I think they’re quite a bit better this year. We’ll see. Playing a cupcake or two is a time-honored tradition in college sports. It’s usually a bad sign if you don’t, because if you don’t then you’re probably a cupcake yourself.

Also they are keeping up with ‘Talking with Scmidtt’ with a promise last week of a MSU comparable, but they didn’t deliver.

I don't listen to ones not specific to MSU or high school sports so they can have other shows that meet a different base. Good business. Tom makes a great point that you are either scheduling a patsy or you are one. With an Oregon SDSU start just hard to understand their context of criticism for a particular game.

That's a good point about 'hard to understand...'. I don't think Colter was criticizing MSU, I think he was just saying in general he doesn't like these cupcake games, and I think he was just bothered by the fact that MSU is playing Mercyhurst two years in a row after Mercyhurst looked so bad last year. I mean Mercyhurst was gawd-awful last year. But like someone else said, MSU didn't have much choice after SFA bailed out. MSU was able to get Mercyhurst (an FCS team) to come to Bozeman two years in a row with the money it saved. That's a no-brainer. It'd be nice of the governing body would put team in divisions and then make lower-level teams earn their way into higher divisions and force flailing higher division teams into lower divisions. Similar to soccer in Great Britain. If you want to move up, earn it on the field of play, not with your checkbook. Money ruins everything except my pockets.

There's no saying that Mercyhurst can't get good in a hurry. And, quite frankly, they look like they've gotten a lot better in just a few short months. UIW did it and they were the Mercyhurst of 10(?) years ago. UIW made the playoffs in 2018 and lost to MSU after about 2-3 years in the FCS. UIW had a really fast defense. Both UIW and Mercy are parochial schools.

If you watch any other FCS Youtube vlogs they're pretty bad. I can only watch for about 15 seconds. They go on for nearly an hour and have nothing informative or interesting to say. The hosts are either uniformed or dying to draw in viewers with "hot" takes (obnoxious attempts to get attention). Skyline/Colter bring in ex-players with solid backgrounds to breakdown/analyze games for their viewers. I enjoy Tootel and Rider and Brooks, I haven't listened to Tripp or Schmidt. There's only so many hours in the day.

My Schmidt counter part is former Bobcat offensive lineman JP Flynn. We had a scheduled time but then he had a kid break his collar bone (he coaches on Hunter Chandler's staff along with Brayden Konkol and Tucker Yates at Gallatin) and had to take him to the emergency room! Then I was out of town.

We just recorded! So I'll post that later this evening! His monologue as a retort of Schmidt is pretty funny hahahaha

It was my understanding that the Mercyhurst game this year was scheduled. ANd that SFA cancelled a non-conference game last year, so in an effort to fill the slot, MSU called Mercyhurst and said "Let's play 2!"

Also, don't read too much into that whole rant. It's basically us complaining about having to cover non-competitive games. Montana State is smart to schedule an exclusively D1 non-conference schedule. And as long as you are selling out, which MSU does always now, you are taking care of the business end and the competitive end of the football operation.
