Spirit Squad and band going to Oregon?
Anybody know if we are taking Cheerleaders and or band to Oregon? Hopefully we are able to make that happen, it would be cool to get some shots of Champ with the Oregon Duck.
We took Cheerleaders to New Mexico last year, hopefully it happens again.

I don't recall the band ever traveling away from Bozeman for a game except for Cat/Griz and the two National Championship games. I think the expense is just too much for a group that big. Hopefully the cheerleaders and Champ can go!

Neither can I remember the band traveling for other games. Certainly they make the Big Sky Basketball tourney also. And per last year the band won't even get to go to the Cat/Griz game this year. Seems like a couple years we helped fund travel for Griz Band to travel to Bozeman.

Very true, it's too bad that opposing bands don't even go to Cat/Griz anymore. Spot on about the band traveling to the Big Sky Tournament and also to MSU's recent NCAA appearances for both the men and women for basketball. I was especially impressed in 2022 that MSU had band members and cheerleaders at both the men's and women's tournament games that were played on the same day.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:17 pmNeither can I remember the band traveling for other games. In the past 5 years or so attending BS BB tourney I have noticed other schools trying to get more band participation. May be just my imagination but I think we have been leaders in getting the support from band, cheer squads and fans in recent times.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:21 pmVery true, it's too bad that opposing bands don't even go to Cat/Griz anymore. I know some people are upset about the visiting team band thing with Cat/griz but I'm actually a big fan of the decision. I don't go to the game when it's in Missoula but I have to believe not having our band there is well worth not having to hear the griz band when we host.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:21 pmVery true, it's too bad that opposing bands don't even go to Cat/Griz anymore. That's fair, I just generally like the atmosphere of any college sporting event that has more band performances and less music piped in over the sound system.coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:27 pmI know some people are upset about the visiting team band thing with Cat/griz but I'm actually a big fan of the decision. I'm with you MSU01. The sometimes competitive and sometimes collaborative comradery between the 2 bands was a positive thing at Cat Griz. Heck some of the band members from the two universities know each other from high school days and some know each other from band camp.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:29 pmThat's fair, I just generally like the atmosphere of any college sporting event that has more band performances and less music piped in over the sound system.coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:27 pmI know some people are upset about the visiting team band thing with Cat/griz but I'm actually a big fan of the decision. I for one detest hearing "Up with Montana" when the gris score a TD in Bobcat stadium, so I'm not losing any sleep over it...coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 3:27 pmI know some people are upset about the visiting team band thing with Cat/griz but I'm actually a big fan of the decision. Re: Spirit Squad and band going to Oregon?
Good news is the SotW band hit record numbers this year finally hitting the 200 mark which was a goal. But yeah, travel for a group that size is nearly impossible for anything other than local bus rides (ie Missoula) or a National Championship.
For March Madness it's a very small subset of the winter band that gets to go. And I'm guessing a lot of people don't know this but NCAA actually funds most of it for the teams that earn bids.
