I really think they need to put the boxes in first. That seems like the logical choice and the one that makes more sense $$$$ wise. There is a long waiting list on those and those are guaranteed to be money makers so get those put in place first and then you can concentrate all the efforts on the practice facility after that (plus use the income of the boxes to fund that etc.).

As "cool" as the indoor practice facility would (and will) be, it is hard to argue the logic of building skyboxes that are already sold. I would really like to see what else is on the radar within the next 3 years. I would guess field turf is up there as well.

I totally agree. If the waiting list is long enough to get those boxes occupied instantly, then why the hell arent they being built right now! The cost of those boxes would be paid off in a matter of years due to their revenue alone. And news flash Fields, if you wait until summer of '08, '09, '10 to build those boxes, they wont get any cheaper!

Personally, I'd like to see that practice field go as soon as possible too. Being as the Sky Boxes could be built off the revenue generated from leasing them out, that would mean funding for the practice facility could come from the athetic departments endowment. Building that would be huge for all athletics at MSU, not just football.

Yeah, both are great ideas I agree. I just think the SAFEST way to go is to get the money makers in first, then build the infrastructure up more from there (field turf although I love the natural grass, and indoor practice facility).

Very true, the longer you wait the more things costs that is for sure. If they can make enough from the skyboxes from leasing as their payments would cost I agree ... THEY NEED TO GET GOING ON THOSE! Then the main endowment money could go to the indoor practice facility etc.

You know, I really appreciate what Fields has done for the athletic department in terms of getting our budget under control, spending under control, he's a bean counter by nature and has done a good job of that. Fields had a tough row to hoe the day he stepped on campus, and he has turned that around.

However, my biggest complaint about Peter is that he doesnt seem to be proactive enough in bringing in money or making advances in the program. Maybe I'm wrong about him, but he seems pretty content in simply getting the budgt under control and staying the course. He isnt near aggressive enough for me, especially now that the debt/budget are under control.

I very much appreciate a fiscally conservative AD, but in the situation MSU is in right now, I honestly think that "if you build it, they will come" along with the mantra, "you gotta spend some money to make some money"

In this day which MSU athletics is doing so well... to speak as an Ag school... its time to make some hay while the sun is shining Peter! That means in terms of soliciting donors, improving on facilities, game day experiences, getting fans butts in seats, etc etc etc. And if you have to double your overhead salaried staff to do so, then damnit do that!

Exactly .. THE TIME IS NOW (Or actually should have started before TL's Senior year!). The program is exploding. Time to keep that interest alive and keep building it! TIME TO MAKE SOME HAY! I agree :P

How many levels of boxes will there be on the north side? What will it look like?

From what I've been told is the student side would be a replicate of the booster side, then horseshoe wtih a mezzanine (sp?) the north end zone. Horseshoe w/ mezz would have sky boxes looking to Hyalite Canyon (very asthetically pleasing eh 8) ), and would increase the size of the warming houses the teams use at halftime and give the Cats a tunnel to enter the field from. Earth berm the south endzone, with future bowled in south endzone.

Pretty sweet looking stadium in the year 3057 when all funds are secured!

That is strange to me. I would love to see the south endzone horseshoe so that the north end of the stadium is open to the Bridgers and campus. That would be cool to drive up to a 25,000 seat stadium and be able to look right in it from Kagy.

Alright, just cause I am in a real cynical mood today...

I am glad to finally understand the purpose behind the new tailgating restrictions at MSU for the student side. They were just planning ahead, knowing that when the new boxes were built it would extend further into the lot and take up valuable tailgating space. By implementing these rules and quelling the growing tailgating atmosphere they avoided any future negative aspects of the first phase of stadium expansion.

Alright, I am just kidding, I can't wait for the new additions whenever they are finally able to begin!
